Traveled from Scotland to LFCC to meet Hayden. Met her, Holly Marie Combs and Danielle Harris. Was on a tight budget. Thought the guests showmasters got for the event were amazing, you's should definetley try and get some from that event up to this Scotland one(ESPECIALLY HAYDEN lol) i'm sure loads of folk would go if any of the guests from LFCC came, and some would
maybe even travel to come. Just a suggestion showmasters ;)

PS, some Charmed/Heroes/Buffy people would be cool.

The majority of US based guests don't normally come back for a year or two at least, so you'll be lucky to see them before then, let alone within a month :P

Depends on the popularity of said guests as well. The size of the Braehead Arena may not be able to accommodate the amount of people that could potentially turn up for highly popular guests.

Though I do hope that at some point in the future Showmasters could consider taking a risk with this event, moving it to the SECC and test out a "big" guest or two. Personally would like to see Glasgow become as big as EMS/LFCC one day.

Oh me too:) I wasn't planning on going to LFCC at all and the Karl Urban was anounced and I booked my bus ticket 2 days later, would have been the same day but had to check money lol.  I enjoy GCC it's nice having a convention 10 minutes down the road but it's never had a guest that would have made me travel all the way up here if I lived in England.

I go to get some geeky Christmas presents in mostly.

I would love to see a larger event too, but why change what we have in Braehead? I say keep that as it is and give Glasgow (or maybe even Edinbrugh) a second large event at a diffrent time of year could be Glasgow Film & Comic Con

I went to the London con and I would not be complaining one bit if Michael Socha came to Glasgow, he was lovely! But I completely agree, the con at Glasgow needs to be made better, I went to it a few years ago to meet Nicholas Brendon from Buffy and he was charming but haven't been back since as none of the guests were interesting enough. Hoping for some good guests this year :)
Stars met: Lee Dainton, Nicholas Brendon, Michael Socha, Kenny Baker

Sports stars met: Magnus (wrestler), William Fox-Pitt, Sharon Hunt, Mary King, Clayton Fredericks (all equestrian showjumpers/eventers)

Bands met: Bring Me The Horizon, Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, Eighteen Visions, Biffy Clyro, Bullets & Octane, Stiff Little Fingers, Unearth, phonecall with Rizzle Kicks for BBCR1 starcaller

Wishlist: Norman Reedus, Jon Bernthal, Joseph Gilgun, Thomas Turgoose, Channing Tatum (in my wildest dreams!), Lord of the Rings cast, Harry Potter cast, Alexander Skarsgard, Joe Manganiello

Not really.  I can do that down the pub.  For me, since I started going to shows like this over a decade ago, it's about meeting my heroes.  It's great when the stalls have good merchandise too.

In reply  to the writer regarding the SECC, if I can remember maybe I am wrong, Collectomania has already been in the SECC and then it was moved to the Braehead Arena, why it was moved to the shopping centre beats me, I have only been to one event in Glasgow and unless SM gets better guests I will return, although I have attended the LFCC for the last 3 years  and only returned at the weekend after attending this event at Olympia which was excellent.

I must thank you Showmasters for this excellent event, although we had trouble on the Saturday and I am sure that this will be looked at for next years event at Earls Court.

The one that used to run in the SECC was a rival show.  They stopped doing shows up in Glasgow when they were gettiing less and less popular, but continued their English shows.  That was, oh, about 10 years ago they stopped up here.  Collectormania has always been in Braehead, from the very first show.

Don't know what pub your going to Zagreus but all the ones I know aren't exactly geek friendly, most folk are more interested in "the game" or pulling "birds" then getting into drunken fights. Like I pointed out Likeminded.

Totaly two different things for atmosphere as well, it's like saying why go to a gig when you can listen to a CD, i can fully understand now why you don't bother about this event if you just go to get what you want signed, stroll around the stalls then leave again, your totally missing the point of this event.

It depends who you go to the pub with, not which pub you go to.

And I don't think I am missing the point at all.  I have been going to these shows for a decade now, so I know what they are about.  It's about different things for different people but for most it's about the merchandise and the guests.  If one or the other isn't of any interest, then there's no point wasting money in going.  It's not a party with the guests and stalls being merely background entertainment.  It's called COLLECTOR-mania, not SOCIALISE-mania.  But as I said, different people get different things out of the event, and to each their own.  So I go for one thing, you obviously go for another.

My post got closed down...and for good reason, My " the guest are awful" was out of line, for that i am sorry. However i know we have this conversation every year and i know Showmasters will add more guests before the event.
My point is, i want this show to go from strength to strength!

Do i have delusions that we should have guests the same as London? No!!!!!

I know thats not the case, but we need maybe just one to continue to grow the event,

The guests announced are all intresting in their own right and i for one cant wait to meet Sarah Douglas but thats not going to draw crowds.

Who is going to walk past and be inticed in to the event by a guest??? not many and that is not me being rude.

Its because i care is say these things and i am used to being shot down by the " be glad what you have" or" its not an event for meeting guests" and " its just for like minded people to meet up"
Its none of thess things...its to make money!!!

If it continues the way it has it wont do that. Glasgow has a massive SCFI group and are famous movie lovers .....the business is here but you have to have the product.

The first few events were amazing for guests but poorly attended due to bad advertising but thay was before the advent of Facebook and Twitter  and becuase of that Showmasters have been cautious.....

Personally i think they need to take a risk and book one good guest which would bring the masses in to discover the joys is a Showmasters Event.

As i say its only cause i care.

My Dad would tell me when i was not doing something right but he still loved me :-0

Guests I would love to meet:

Val Kilmer
Sean Bean
Jean Claude Van Damme
Dolph Lundgren
Dan Aykroyd

Zagreus, So because of its name you CAN'T enjoy it in more than one way? You know and hang out with a huge group of totally likeminded folk then that fill this pub? No? Well NOT the same, not even close and you know it.

I find it quite sad actually, I can enjoy an event like this simply by being there, I feel your missing out big time. You get what your willing to put into these events and you have decided to have an overly negative attitude, and quite a shelfish one too.

Why even bother to make these posts in this forum, you just bring it down and quite frankly you come across as a bit of a troll.

I won't be responding more to this particular subject.

@gonnie, It's already got more than one great guest in my eyes. expect this subject to be closed down too and for good reason also. And what a stupid "insight" you have it is in fact ALL the things you said of course they want to make money, it's a business! And so are the other events that your going on about!!!

we travel from Inverness to Glasgow for this event because we enjoy the fact of not having to sit in a train for 8 hours to meet people who dont think we are geeks because we like scifi. we may not meet many guests but go to he talks and browse the stalls. its also nice that you can walk around without being crushed like some of the bigger events
