The Horror, The Horror

Just thought I'd ask how many people would be interested in a full on horror convention being added to the showmasters schedule.

Personally I'd love to have a full on horror con where we get the cream of the horror world past and present. I know we get the odd guest here and there, I've personally met, bruce Campbell, Robert englund and now Danielle Harris at sm shows but a while show just for them and the likes of ted raimi, Kane Hodder, John carpenter, George Romero, tom savini etc would be immense.

Thoughts?

Don't get that, seeing the people who attend and knowing how big horror is and how serious the fans take it I'd think a horror con would be a hit. Certainly if you can have an event just for twilight which is more a teen girlie thing, and even shows advertised for Grimm and once upon a time, surely a horror show would be a hit?

I'd LOVE a horror convention here, but realistically it wouldn't work, there's just not enough of that here. In the states it works as they have a land-mass like mainland Europe, and a much bigger industry for it. Here's it would be too small to workout, with very few guests etc.....

Maybe we should start a petition :)
Maybe you should start your own show :D Seriously, I think Jason's answer in the past has been that he doesn't see such an event being successful, and since it's his money, he really doesn't have to organise one, but if you're so sure it will be a winner you're more than welcome to rustle up the finances and do it yourself.

It would be fantastic but I suspect Showmasters are probably right as it would probably struggle to generate the numbers of attendees to make the event financially succesful.

Perhaps rather than a broad Horror Convention, it would be good to frame it around a particular current and popular series of Horror films or a TV Show and have a few additional Horror guests but do something on a smaller scale.

If I was to arrange one I'd probably do something around say the Woman in Black Films in the UK, so you could have a Hammer Horror old and new theme and if you could get a big name like Daniel Radcliffe along then you would probably get the numbers required.

The more I think about it the less I get it, Grimm, statgate, tru blood, Buffy, whilst these are all popular I don't see how they'd attract more of a crowd than a generic horror con. Horror is a hugely popular genre and if you built a con they would come, fans shuffling out of the darkness like an army of the undead.

I know it won't happen but I still for the life of me don't see why nor.

There are lots of different factors at play. If you time a Convention right when a show is succesful and at it's peak then it is likely to work , also if a show has built up a big cult following then the folks are likely to come out and go to a show.

I suspect if you could pull in some cross genre guests for a general Horror Con it might work, but the trouble is whilst there are a lot of people who enjoy Horror movies, it is such a broad genre and many people who enjoy watching the odd scary movie won't be interested enough in attending a convention. I think in a way there are different levels of fandom ! There are succesful events with a Horror theme , film festivals, film screenings etc, but I do think you would have to build it around something quite specific for it to work.

A show like the London Film and Comic Con has a much broader base of Movies, TV and fans to draw on , so there is something for most people there, where as a Horror Convention would just stuggle to generate that broad interest.
