Hi friends! :)

First time at a Star Trek convention and SO EXCITED.
I stay in Edinburgh, so I was going to try and grab some Easyjet flights down, can any locals advise the nearest airport to fly into?
Also, any advice on reasonably priced hotels/B&Bs nearby? Myself and my companion don't drive, so we will have to be taxi-ing to the event! And I'd like to save pennies to buy me some rockin' Voyager memorabilia of course!

Any help would be very much appreciated!

The closest to the event would be London City Airport. But I dont think Easyjet is uing that one.

Also I am not sure how the hotel situation nearby is looking at the moment. Hopefully someone else can help with recommendations there.

Good to know, thanks! Would the other airports still be fairly close?
Trying to get myself organised... Only 162 sleeps!

London City Airport is the only London airport that's actually IN London, it's mainly used for business flights and because of it's location there are limits to the number of flights in and out of it. The other airports that service London (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton) are all outside of London itself and you would need to get a taxi, train, the underground or a bus from any of those and none are close.

Hey,

I am coming from Edinburgh.

I looked into flying down, but its a hassle. From where I live, it takes 20mins to the airport, then check-in, then the flight, get baggage, then travel to the centre.

What I am doing is leaving waverly train statgion on friday morning (0700ish), get into Kings Cross for 1130ish, then a taxi to my hotel at the excel centre. Also means when i come back up full of trek goodies, i wont be too restricted on baggage etc and i get a meal on the train up and down.

First Class the train is going to cost me and my girlfriend about £170 return, the plane was very similar. FOr ease and hassle, i will be taking the train on this occasion.

You can get standard tickets MUCH cheaper still, but you cant book train tickets until 3months before the date of travel, crazy.

All the "London" airports have excellent transport links to actual London. The ones I know are Gatwick, who do a train to Victoria every ten minutes, and Heathrow who have a couple of Underground stations (Piccadilly Line), and I'm sure Luton and Gatwick must have something similar. I'd just go for the cheapest/most convenient flight, whichever airport that might be, and sort the last bit of the journey out after!

I'll be studying in the Netherlands next term and am considering flying back for this...

No idea about the cheapest flights, but both Heathrow and Gatwick have good transport links into central London, Luton is a bit further. London City Airport is right next to Excel, but doubt it'll have the flight connections you need.

The accomodation thread: http://showmasterson...opic=75486  has various links/comments in it about nearby (often walking distance) accomodation at reasonable prices.

There's an Etap hotel next to London City Airport. It's pretty basic in terms of what they have but it's good if you're running on a budget.  It's about ten minutes away from the Excel on foot.
