Credit to TurkFox for the original rules and information which this topic is based off of.

- If you have any questions, please ask them in this topic, or alternatively email us on showmasterscosplay@googlemail.com

1. APPLICATION FORMS

Cosplay Masquerade Application Form - Download.
Cosplay Skit Show Application Form - Download.
Talent Show Application Form - Download.

Make sure to read the rules before sending them off to showmasterscosplay@googlemail.com

2. WEAPONS/PROPS & CONDUCT
All weapons and props should be brought to the cosplay desk upon arrival at an event to be checked by the organiser, even if you are not participating in any cosplay events. This is to prevent anyone wandering around with anything potentially dangerous.

Weapons and props should be no longer than 5ft (1.5m) to be carried around - anything longer than this can be stored at the cosplay desk at your own risk until the masquerade. They should be constructed of foam, plastic, balsa wood, cardboard or other lightweight materials. They should have no sharp edges and any dangerous things removed.

Wooden or other solid (LEGAL) replica weapons must be peace-bonded (unable to be drawn).

The organiser reserves the right to confiscate any weapon considered to be dangerous. Mock battles or 'play fights' are not allowed inside the event area. Please be safe with your weapon or prop. Anyone found behaving in a way which endangers themself or the public will have their weapon confiscated and/or be escorted immediately from the event without refund. During the event, you may be approached by a member of the cosplay team or security to check your weapon has been approved. If this happens, please be co-operative.

Finally, remember to be extra vigilant when transporting items to and from the event.

3. ELIGIBILITY
The competitions are open to all ages, but entrants aged under 16 must have their entry form signed by a parent or guardian - no exceptions. If you look young, please bring proof of age.

All types of costume may be entered within reason. Costumes from film, anime, video games, music, tV, comics, books, theatre and even original costumes may be entered.

We regret that bought costumes (as a whole or seperately-acquired outfit from a shop or from e-bay) are not allowed for entrants over 12 years in the Cosplay Masquerade. If you haven't made at least part of your costume (or modified something bought heavily), it is not eligible to win a prize.

If you have previously won a Showmasters Cosplay Masquerade with a particular costume, you cannot enter that costume again without prior arrangement with the organiser. If you have previously entered a Showmasters event with a costume but haven't won a prize with it, you will probably be allowed to enter it again if it shows signs of being improved/worked on, but please check with the organiser in advance.

4. REGISTRATION
Registration will be available online in advance for all events. You should fill in the entry form and email it by the date given in the thread. There will also be limited spaces available on the day, but pre-registration is preferred (and essential if you wish to provide your own music). You must report to the desk on the day to sign in and be pre-judged.

All Masquerade entries in the adult category (over 12 years of age) must provide a reference picture. This should be emailed in advance. If it is an original costume that you are entering, a drawing/sketch or concepts will be accepted. You should also provide your own music, attached with your registration or emailed shortly after.

We don't accept music on the day, even for pre-registered entries.

5. MASQUERADE CATEGORIES
Under 12 - This category will no longer be judged. It is simply to show off costumes and be part of the masquerade experience! If an under-12 is wearing a costume you wish to have judged, it must be entered into the appropriate category for the age of the person who made it, regardless of the age of the child wearing it.

Junior - This category covers the ages of 12 - 17. Costumes entered into this category should be mostly made by the entrant, though we understand they may have had some help.

Adult - This category is for 18+ entrants, plus any entrants wearing a costume made by an adult. Entrants will be held strictly to the rules.

6. MASQUERADE PERFORMANCE
From the moment you walk onto the stage, you are trying to impress us. Show us the character's movements, personality etc. and pose as the character would! You have around a minute to pose and show your costume off. The longer you are on stage for, the more time you have to score points in this area, so it's better not to just rush on and rush back off again.

If you are performing a skit, all sound must be pre-recorded and emailed before the closing date for entries. We can't provide microphones, so all dialogue should be pre-recorded. You should describe your skit on the entry form so we can allow/disallow things based on their suitability for a general audience. Staff have the right to stop a skit at any time if it becomes inappropriate. The maximum skit length is two minutes for an individual entry and three minutes for a group.

You may use any song for your walk-on or skit, as long as it is suitable for a general audience (eg. no swearing or other explicit content). We don't accept music on the day so if you haven't sent in anything beforehand, something will be chosen for you from what we have. This includes on-the-day entries.

7. MASQUERADE JUDGING
Costumes will be judged in three areas - the quality of the costume and how well made it is; how much of a resemblance the costume and contestant have to the original; and how well you present the character's movements/mannerisms.

Pre-judging will occur on the day. If you are entering to win a prize (ie. you have made at least part of your costume), the judges will ask questions, take a closer look at the costume etc. This is compulsory if you wish to score any points in the "craftsmanship" category. The masquerade will take place in front of an audience and a panel of judges.

8. TALENT SHOW PERFORMING & JUDGING

Do your best to try and impress us on stage. Staff have the right to stop a performance at any time if it becomes inappropriate or contains bad language. A performance must not exceed a maximum length of 4-minutes.

The judges will be equipped with large crosses and, in the style of Britain's Got Talent, will hold up their cross signs if they don't like your act - Three crosses and you're out. The judges will give their comment on each act and at the end. At the end of the show the judges will announce the winner.

9. SKIT-SHOW PERFORMANCE & JUDGING

Do your best to try and impress us on stage. Staff have the right to stop a performance at any time if it becomes inappropriate or contains bad language. A performance must not exceed a maximum length of 4-minutes.

In a similar fashion to the Talent Show, this is dependent on the judges, who will give a comment on each skit, with the winner being announced at the end.

10. MISC
You may be filmed or photographed during the masquerade, talent-show or skit-show, and Showmasters or its associates may wish to use your image. By entering these events you agree to this.

If I enter with another cosplayer, will our costumes be judged individually or as a pair?

I just read in the skit performance about judges can stop the performance at any time if bad language is used or whatever... and with mine anda friends' skit (Ariel and Jack Sparrow) Jack says the word "bugger" at the end... i didnt even think about it until now... was wondering if you listened to the audio I sent with the form, and if everything Jack says in it is okay- considering everything he says in the audio is exactly what Jack says in the films kinda thing and it's still classed okay in the films for kids....

Hope this made sense. Can someone put my mind at rest and clarify this is okay for me?

That ought to be fine, that's PG content at most there, which is what we would allow.

Hi - I'm nearly seventeen, but I have a lot of experience (*sigh*) of being mis-aged and having to prove my age;  and I wanted to be safe in case that happens at the con for the Masquerade and such. What kinds of proof-of-age would be deemed acceptable?

Umm, for the masqurade can we just bring a picture with us on the day?
I don't have a scanner for my design, and it's an OC so I can't just google it either...

Also, for the having a parentally signed form with us (I'm 15)... Should I just print out the application form and get my mum to sign it saying she's okay with my being in the masq. or is there something else she needs to fill in?

Hi,

I just wanted to give a head's up that with my disney group's masquerade entry on the saturday we have a character change with one of the cosplayers. My Friend Kim will NOT be Giselle anymore due to wig issues but WILL be Mother Gothel, if I have to remind anyone or let you know on the day I will- that's fine, but I thought I'd try and let you know in advance on here too.

Hi,
I emailed a week ago or so, saying that I couldn't confirm the day until the timetables were up, now they're up I sent off another e-mail, but have had no reply.
Can someone reply to this so I know that I definitely have a place for the masquerade?
Thanks
Tori

Hey everyone!

Sorry, myself and Blue Eyed Valkyrie have been out of the country but I'm sorting through all the queries now.

SmallHam: Anything with your date of birth on it will be fine; passport, provisional license, citizen card...etc etc. As long as it has your picture and birth year on it I'll be happy to accept it.

Banni: Fine on both accounts. As long as we have your form just come and find us on the day and we'll sort it out.

FuriePhoenix..no problem. Will change the form accordingly.

Tori: Just looking at your email now and will reply asap but I'm pretty sure you'll have a place.

Again, I apologise for the delay in getting back to you but family life got in the way but we're back on track now so any other queries just let us know.

Can I ask how long parade entries on Saturday's masquerade get time wise? Because I'm still working out ideas of how to pose and walk on with my group, and we dont wanna go on too long or too short! lol. But we do wanna give that disneyland paris parade feel to the audience at the same time lol.

Any information on time limit for the parade entries will be greatly appreciated so I can pass it onto the group members!

We usually limit the entry to 3 minutes to allow enough time for everyone to get on stage without feeling too rushed.

I have a few questions.
1. Is there any slots left?
2. Can you only have audio for skits? Because I want to do part of a dance. Would that come under Talents?
3. I'm 15 but my costume was made by a profesional. Does this mean I would have to register in the 18+ catagory?

Thanks for answering my questions ;)
