Who wants to discuss the Terminator films?

I'll start by saying how did Skynet know Kyle Reese was John Connor's father in Terminator Salvation? And why does Skynet still want to kill John Connor so much? In T3 we learn John Connor is killed by a T-850 before the war is over and in TS we learn that John Connor never formed the resistance, he isn't in command and follows orders from someone else, that General Ashdown guy.

So if he didn't form the human resistance and doesn't lead anyone to ultimate victory because he's dead then there really isn't point in sending a Terminator back to the 80s to kill Sarah Connor.

Skynet knows everything. Skynet has "detailed files." Skynet wants to kill John cos he is the guy that turned it all around who brought humans "back from the brink" and taught them how to "smash those metal motherFers into junk".

He lead them to ultimate victory or ultimately he lead them to victory. He pointed them in the right direction. He had no official military rank so the leaders of the world were not about to let a crazy homeless kid lead the human race. He probably started out as an advisor then learned to fight and worked his way up the ranks. By the time he died, he was already a big name and well respected in the human resistance.

Oh and of course, "this is not the future that my mother told me about". That's a cop-out of a plausible deniabilty clause that the makers put into TS to make up new rules.

conner in salvation kept doing all the radio messages to ppl, he was the voice of the resistance, and an advisor to the military as a terminator expert, and a commander in his own right within the resistance, once the main resistance leadership dies in the sub, conner survives and takes full command of the resistance, thats what I took from salvation

arnie terminator killing him in the future as said in t3, well by telling him, arnie terminator is changing the future, now conner knows and can prepare, i always liked that line at the end between then when arnie says, we will meet again.

But there is no way Skynet could have known Kyle Reese is John Connors father. It would also have no effect if they killed Kyle Reese in the future either. John would have had a different father in the very original timeline that wasn't Kyle Reese. So by killing Kyle the current timeline would revert back to the first timeline and John Connor would still be born.
