I had 2 of those, but never got around to buying the rest (I couldn't afford them :D) so when the other one came out, I thought it made more sense to just get that

I have that one, but annoyingly when I opened it I found it was missing the poster and the dedication plaque. I contacted the seller and he told me that he'd contacted his supplier who was unable to obtain the missing items.

I have them all on dvd, I have no need for the blurays (unless there are numerous special features like commentaries?)

Ive seen that split screen one, looked ok, but not enough to entice me to double dip, especially as ive started a rewatch and as I remember series 1&2 (aside the odd ep) are pretty dull! I know it gets better, but the cost of the bluray, not worth it for me.

TBH, I love TNG, its trek with a great crew, but I do feel in trek circles its vastly overated!

NOW TOS bluray, I deff want that, the picture and sound improvements BUT also the original versions AND the special edition versions on seamless branching, thats what im talking about. but I will wait for it to hit the 50 quid mark.

does anyone know if the TOS blurays copy of the cage has the originals and the remastered? ( I hear the remastered one on the bluray has CGI and cuts ect)

I had some of the original hard cases with TNG but not all, I tried in vein to get this when i saw it in sales online but they were always out of stock
I later bought the slimlines to complete my TNG collection

TOS & DS9 are all the hard original cases

ENT, 3 slims and S4 hard original

VGR im yet to buy on dvd, waiting for it to drop to around the 50 mark for the box set
I would like to meet the tart who just complained about me! if its you, come say hi! p.s I paid £180 entry to LFCC 2011, is that free?

I'm fairly new to the world of Trek, so all the ones I own are in the slimline packaging. I simply couldn't handle my various DVDs of the same show being in different shape/sized boxes, would drive me mad  :YAHOO:

unfortunately when I started collecting the dvds there were only the hard cases out, which were 70-100 bloody quid a pop, I didnt pay that, I got them when they went in the sales, but still more expensive than the 10 quid slims you can get now, however not all seasons went in sales, and when the slims came out i got them cheap for tng seasons I didnt own, also unfortunately Im not made of money lol

I always keep my eye out for the hard cases cheap with a view to replace or at least with a view to think about replacing them for TNG, with ENT ive been considering selling my hard s4 one and buying the slim s4 so they match, but not decided yet.

Totally agree. We have all the Star Treks in the big hard cases.

We got so many and well I'm so fussy about my sets looking the same that I wanted to get the rest in the same sets as well.

My hubby was lucky enough to get some second hand on Amazon for under £14 (£12 being the cheapest he got one season for) and we got some others we were missing from CEX (again for under £14).

We only need TOS (which we missed out on due to lack of funds when we were in CEX once) 1 season of  DS9 and 3 of Voyager and we will have them all in the bigger hard cases.

I'm glad we got the hard cases as I heard the slim ones don't come with the extras, if that's true well I love my extras would have hated missing out on them..

Would love to have TNG on BR but as I don't watch them that much and spent so much on the DVDs todate I can't see us getting them any time soon. Certainly don't think my hubby would be to happy having the whole  show twice over just to get it on BR when he can't even fully appreciate BR anyway due to his slightly wonky eyes..

I have the slimline DS9, Voyager and Enterprise Season DVD sets, I got them for around £10 each. They have extras, I think the only difference between them and the big boxes is the outer packaging and the images on the surface of the discs. I would have liked the larger ones but I could never afford them, and I don't have the shelf space!

Good to know thanks for that. And yes the bigger hard cases I have certainly do take up a lot more room

Up to now I remained to be convinced about Blu Ray, but having seen the video comparison on this page I'm astounded by the difference in quality:

am I the only one who thinks the colours just dont match on the bluray, the creature in enounter at farpoint, is completely a different colour old purple new blue AND when in space they switch colours, the old version in more blue and the new one more purple, wtf?

Of course the improvements you are seeing there in a flash video are nothing to do with High Definition, or blu ray, its mearly the fact they've done a much better job of it than they did 25 years ago.

Even if they released that on Standard definition DVD, it would still look miles ahead of the original broadcast.

Its just they never would have done an extensive remastering were it not the need to create HD masters now.

It doesn't appear that way to me. The original version starts out purple (I would have gone with lilac myself  :P  ) on the surface and then changes to blue when in space. The new version is blue on the surface and in space. I suspect it was always meant to be blue but the effects used for the planet surface inadvertantly changed the colour of the creature.

From reading the article I got the impression that they were making the effects look the way they had always intended for them to look.

The 'new' in space colour looks the same as the 'new' on the planet colour to me.

Are you aware that this is an image of two individual creatures?. It's not and 'old' and 'new' comparison of the same creature. The creature on the left is the one that was being used as Farpoint station, and the one on the right is it's companion who arrived to rescue the other.
