This will be Ron’s first public signing and he is sure to be very popular indeed!
Ron Atkinson had a distinguished managerial career, best known for managing Manchester United from 1981 to 1986. In that time United won the FA Cup twice and consistently finished in the top 4 of the First Division. In the 1983-84 season they also reached the semi-finals of the European Cup Winners Cup.
Atkinson made several high profile signings to United including Bryan Robson, Gordon Strachan, Frank Stapleton and Jesper Olsen. He also brought through young talent such as Mark Hughes, Norman Whiteside and Paul McGrath.
Despite never winning the First Division with United Atkinson’s spell there was the clubs most successful period since Sir Matt Busby!
During his career Atkinson is also well known for managing West Bromwich Albion (twice), Athletico Madrid, Sheffield Wednesday (twice), Aston Villa, Coventry City and Nottingham Forest. He is undoubtedly one of the best known managers from the 1980s/90s.
