Reverend Scapegoat
I'd like, if I may, to nip any potential problems in the bud: Whilst these forums are intended for discussion of all aspects of Collectormania, please be aware that guest announcements can be made right up to the week before the event. Showmasters will book the best guests that they feel are appropriate for the convention - Bearing in mind that the guests themselves do have a say in whether or not they attend, and bigger guests are obviously likely to prefer bigger events if their filming schedule permits a choice. The simple reason for this is that they sell more autos, therefore they make more money. Therefore suggesting guests is all well and good, and showmasters do listen - You might come up with someone they never thought of, and have them added to the bill as a result. But it's been proven over the last few events that going beyond constructive criticism and into outright complaining about a lack of "big name guests" is counterproductive and will only serve to create bad feeling between forum users and SM staff, with the mods of the forum stuck in the middle. So, can we have a moratorium on "WHY NO GUESTS?!" posts this year, please? I understand how frustrating it can be to be in the dark ( Contrary to what a few folk thought this year, I'm not Showmasters staff! I'm a punter like you all... Just one with a big collection of toys I enjoy showing off ), but my mantra is always to think of the guests as gravy, and to go to the con for the con's sake. There's plenty of other stuff to make it an awesome weekend, and you know there'll be someone famous there to chat to and get stuff signed by. Go, and plan to meet fellow geeks, play dressup, buy stuff, and maybe even go listen to the guest talks from someone you've never heard of. Sometimes the most interesting moviemaking stories come from the folk down low on the totem pole... The wee guy can tell stories that the big star could never get away with. So Say We All? GRjingo
Here here. I really hate all the nay sayers. I'd go if they had only guests that we had already seen, and there were no big names at all! Seriously. Give me any and all of the Star wars guests, or big Shane Rangi (LOTR). It's all good. Reverend Scapegoat
The problem is partially that many of the folk seen as "naysayers" are those who have attempted to put the most effort into promoting the events. Which is why they've felt more frustrated than most, and ended up venting that frustration. I'd just rather not see any arguing this time round is all :)
steevofromglasgow
Fantastic Rev - brilliantly put. The Glasgow forums always take a pounding most years with people getting frustrated, but the events always turn out really well. Of all the events that take place each year, I'm always pleasantly surprised that it's the Glasgow one which appears to have the most posts along the lines of things like a themed party, some people wanting to catch up with others the night before that have travelled, post your photos here so we recognise each other, etc. So with twelve months or so to go, why don't we try and make this an even bigger community - sharing knowledge, adding each other through social networking sites, etc. Maybe if we can all get on even better than before then it will generate more interest in the event and keep peoples morale up. This is a hobby and to some (us) a passion that we all share so let's encourage this. What does everyone else think Steve
