General Lee

Ok so what the hell's the excuse for the General Lee cancelling...and only telling us ON THE DAY ??????

Are you gonna tell me ( like you did with Tom Wopat) that his filming schedule changed or he got a better offer?

As he can't be filmed in anything but Dukes I find that highly unlikely !!!!!

This is just taking the P*** :P:band::angry::angry:

Tons of things can come up suddenly with a car - car itself wouldn't start or in that case maybe a problem with transport.

Whatever it was, SM must have been informed on really short notice if they only announced it that close.

Maybe someone going to the event can ask at the Organisers Booth, they will be able to give a reason. Unfortunately the complete office is at the event, I'm not even sure if any mod but me is around. And I'm afraid all I can do is guess.

EDIT because of TheVampireGirl's post below.

I noticed it was showing as cancelled on the www.collectormania.com website yesterday or the day before so it's not just today they've announced it. And eitherway it's hardly SM's fault is it, if the owners or whatever have cancelled?? :P

Well, I checked the site just after midnight last night and it wasn't showing as cancelled then so it WAS today.

The General was the main reason I was bothering to come ( as transport and hotel were already booked to see Tom) I thought 'oh well, at least there'll be someone Dukes there' !! So I was keeping a close watch.

As for being negative....I'm sorry but I find it very difficult to travel due to a bad spine and severe arthritis so of course I'm gonna be angry that I'm already on my way and find this out. I have to break my journey due to my probs and find it very disheartening.

Anyway, if it's as simple as the car not starting then fix the problem and get there tomorrow. If the car's so bad that's not possible then I guess it's a crap heap and I wouldn't wanna see it anyway !! :P

I honestly can't tell when the cancellation might have happened, I have not checked the cancellation list in a couple of days.

Maybe it even was a site hiccup. My backup computer is still on IE 6.0 and sometimes it doesn't always load the right version of the Collectormania site. I make a habit out of hitting F5 just to be safe.

I know from your past posts that you are a really big Dukes fan and I fully understand you are upset.

Unfortunately sometimes last minute cancellations happen - at C15 Alice Krige was there on the Friday and then did not turn up again on Saturday because she got a film role. It is very, very rare that those changes happen, but they do happen from time to time. If you're coming for one guest/one thing only it's always a good idea to check the site before.

Like I said above, I don't know what exactly the reason for the cancellation is. Car won't start was the first thing coming to my mind because that was why my boyfriend arrived late this morning. :P It must be a serious issue for sure if the car's appearance is cancelled completely.

Hopefully someone who's still going will see this and will ask at the Organisers Booth for you.

Thanks but I can ask myself as I'm already half way so I'll be there anyway.

I'm now gonna go meet Richard Dunwoody....don't tell me he's cancelled !!..as I can now afford an auto from him and I do admire him.

I never checked the sports list before as I couldn't afford more than one auto and that HAD to be TOM.

Maybe you guys can make it up to us by having Dukes people at another show this year...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :P

I wasn't sure if you had returned home or if you were still coming. If you can ask yourself that's even better.

The Organisers Booth will be the spot to go to, or if they don't know for some reason (would suit me right if I tell you to go there and that happens :P) please ask to speak to Jason.

I have not been informed of any more cancellations than the ones posted in the Guest Days topic respectively on the website, so to the best of my knowledge Richard Dunwoody will be there. I hope you enjoy meeting him even if you had preferred meeting Tom.

I truly hope Tom will make it for another event this year. I have a Dukes cast shot which is only missing his signature. Catherine Bach has attended CM before, so our chances are good Tom or John will eventually make it.

I dont like to see anyone upset or disappointed and even though these arent the real thing and just replicas I was of the mind that this may somewhat soften the blow.

These were taken at the start of May down here in Southend as part of the film festival:

Honestly Dukegirl I don't know why your default position is to assume that SM are in the business of f**king you over. Seriously, you need to take a chill-pill and think for a moment. If you're still looking to yell at someone, maybe give "Classic Cars R Us" or whoever it is a ring and yell at them, ok?

Actally whilst on the subject, can we clarfiy...are these actual on-set-used cars or are the replicas?

Knowing exactly how these cars were used whilst filming (and how many they got through!) I would suspect that they are replicas, as so many of this type of 'special' vehicle is.

I should think it's quite unlikely that you'll ever see a real original General Lee over here as the only one is at the Cumbria Star Car museum I believe.( I can check for you if you'd like ?)

There are only seventeen left in existance : two are still with Warner Bros. and fifteen in private ownership. I know where thirteen of them are...in the States... as a friend of mine runs the Dodge Charger registry group, and I know the original 'Dukes' mechanics who still work on those cars.

Hope that helps.

Slip I will bet you £1m that they are replicas!

I can kind of understand why General Lee wasn't there to be fair. It doesn't really make sense to have the car there when the guest it ties in with can't make it. I didn't expect General Lee to be there. The only time I've ever seen it is accompanying John Schneider so without Tom Wopat it stands to reason to me.

If that's the case then it should be stated that the car would only appear with the guest.

I actually had thirteen people that were gonna come with me from my home town to see General Lee...even after Tom cancelled. The car is something special on his own and any real Dukes fan would be glad to see him.

I'm sure there must have been others. Personally, after Tom cancelled I still came to see the General.....only to be disappointed as stated above.

People just don't seem to realise how popular The Dukes of Hazzard still is....almost everyday I get someone stopping me in the street to ask were they can get my Dukes t-shirt, or jacket etc.

The last Dukesfest in Nashville attracted over 147 thousand people for two days !! :D

Come on SM.....Dukes guests are a big draw !!!! :D

yes, well, to be fair Milton Keynes and Nashville are two very different places ;) Anyway, from my point of view I think it makes business sense not to book a replica General Lee after Wowpat decided to cancel. When Christopher Lloyd came to LFACC, they had a lovely replica DeLorean there - but if he'd have cancelled, without a doubt it would have been too. Just makes sense.
