biggestfanever
I am thinking of taking my freind to one of your events (chevron 7.4) . He suffers from m.e meaning that his illness can leave him in bed for weeks but other times he can be allright. 1. could he buy a ticket on the door if hes well enough and they hadnt sold out . 2. Is the birmingham metropole wheelchair freindly and also where the con takes place. 3. Say he isnt feeling well when its his time for autographs could he possibly be aloud to get it like another time of the day. 4. Is the con hotel like really noizy and like the con itself. Thankyou i had a look on the website couldnt see anything about it..
Queen_Sindel
1. Yes, absolutely. Unless sold out all tickets can be bought at the door. 2. Unless someone who has been there at a prior event can comment on this I would recommend that you check with the hotel directly about disability access. 3. Yes, he can get his autographs any time after his group has been called. You will be receiving a voucher where your autographs are marked off. If the worst thing happens and he is not feeling well during the complete signing time talk to crew and you could pick his autographs up for him. 4. I can't comment for the hotel, but I am sure someone can answer this for you. I'm not sure what you mean with "and the con itself". Do you mean if the con is noisy? The party music can be quite loud, but I don't like loud music in general so I am not really someone you should listen to there. During photo sessions and autograph sessions there's the usual general murmuring like you always have it when there's a larger group in a room. For the talks microphones are used to ask questions and when the guests answer them.
Moderators etmuse Posted December 16, 2009 Moderators Share Posted December 16, 2009 I was at this hotel for hub 3, and I'd say it was fairly wheelchair friendly - the ground floor is level access, and there are good sized lifts to all the other floors. There are some small sets of steps around the con area, but if I remember correctly there were wheelchair ramps too. One of the friends I go to cons with also has ME, and while she doesn't use a wheelchair she obviously doesn't do well with standing in queues for a long time - TooTall and the crew have always been great about letting one of us queue for her and she can sit nearby and just come join us when we get to the front. I don't know if this sort of arrangement would also be helpful to your friend. As Queen Sindel said, the only really noisy part of the con is the parties. The hotel itself mostly seemed fairly quiet the weekend we were there - I'd imagine some of this depends on who is in the rooms near you, of course. Dankriss
I have ME and have always found these events to be easy....I tend to either wait until the end when the queues are shorter....as queues are done on your ticket number you will know roughly when you are needed.....as I don't mind sitting at the back of the room for the main events I tend to wait either in the bar in my room until about 10 mins before they let people in for the panels.... At C7.3 my body gave up at about 4 on the Saturday and I ended up in my hotel room for the rest of the day...the con is not that noisy but when you book an hotel room it might be better to ask to be put in a room on a higher floor and at the back of the hotel....all hotels by law these days have to be accessable for wheelchair users.... Last but not least let the organisers know about your friend as they will keep an eye on them....they are a very good crew always happy to help.... Hope you friend enjoys the con!
