Not sure you can really compare voices/songs though. Surely they're both completely different genres, and therefore 'better' depends on your personal preference? I'm assuming from the sort of music you seem to like that Rage wouldn't ever be high on your like list :D Plus it's not Joe's song anyway. I wouldn't have minded if he'd got to no.1 at all, but it does say a lot that he got so many votes to win the show and yet couldn't get to no.1 in the charts. Makes you wonder how much it differs between those who just watch the show and those who genuinely follow the careers post-X Factor.
Yeah, that's very true, hence why I said 'in my opinion' lol :P. But yeah, I'm not a fan of Rage's type of music, it just sounds like noise to me lol. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against anyone who likes it but I don't agree with the campaign and am disappointed that we have such a non-Christmassy Christmas song. Ah well, not everyone can be pleased and I'm not this year lol. Personally, I love Joe's version of The Climb but I do feel that he'd have had a better chance of getting to number one with his version of Don't Stop Believing by Journey, I love Journey. I like those sort of old rock bands like Kansas for example too, I just don't like the screamy ones who swear for the sake of it. I bought 2 copies of The Climb to try and get it to number one but it didn't work and I agree, it does make you think. I'm definitely one who follows their careers post X Factor. :(

It is one thing I do like about shows like X Factor - that sometimes it will encourage people to go and seek out bands they'd never heard of before etc. Like Simon said Journey were not well known - I always thought they were, but obviously some hadn't heard of them so it's good if they get some exposure from it.

I'm so glad there's been a successful resolution to the years of sheep/zombie like 'Must buy XFactor record....must buy XFactor record...' nonsense. None of them have been 'Christmassy', they've all been MOR pap.

How about a campaign next year for the return of Mr Blobby? Or even better - Mr Hanky

Just to let you all know, I don't like The X Factor to try and be a sheep 'cause nearly all of my friends actually hate the show. Most of the things I like tend to be things that no-one else likes which is unfortunate, I wish some of them did.  :(

All I can say is that it is obvious with what has happened that there are a greater number of people who dislike the whole reality show/X-Factor set up than some may have thought. So many voted on the show, yet millions of them did not buy the single.

The whole Rage Against The Machine campaign was set up as a joke group on Facebook because of the lyrics. What was initially a joke then gathered so much pace that people joined in against the whole reality show industry - something that is starting to die off - rather than the singer himself. Simon Cowell proved he is a sad little man - albeit a rich one - as he said the campaign was a bullying one against Joe.

Newsflash Mr Cowell...it was against you and the way you use people to line your own pockets.

I hope Joe has a long and successful career, but the song choice was poor.

Personally, if I was Joe, I would have told Mr Cowell to politely refer to the Rage lyrics!!!!

Think you need to check your figures. They sold 500k downloads at 99p each. Given the various different parties that have to take their cut out of this, in no way will that lead to 120% of the total sales amount going to charity...

What you feel to realise is that whichever record people bought, percentages went into Cowells pocket.

I think you will find that Sony benefit with Rage and not Cowell.

Rage are signed to Epic who are the premier label for Sony.

Simon Cowell owns Syco Music, part of Simco Ltd, which operates under the Sony label.

So, no percentages would have directly gone into the pocket of Simon Cowell as he has no affiliation with Rage. Check Wiki, or anywhere else, and you will see that being in the same family (Sony) does not mean Cowell gets money.

Mind you, if Simon Cowell has shares in Sony, then he would have indirectly financially gained.

Either that or he hedged his bets by putting a few hundred grand on RATM being number one at the bookies!

Cue my Star Wars themed X factor joke..........

Q: What do X factor contestants and Lukes Tauntaun have in common?

A: They both make a cover for one night and  then you never see them again!

Boom Boom!
My first autograph was Dave Prowse at a signing day organised by my local art shop. A family stood in the queue before me, their young boy (about 10 years old) excited about meeting his hero. The Father picked out a 'Revenge of the Sith' filmcell for Mr Prowse to sign, "But Dad, Dave didn't play Darth Vader in that film" complained the young lad, showing wisdom belying his years. The Mother turned to me, smiled and rolled her eyes skywards, "It doesn't really matter, does it?" groaned the Father. I couldn't believe what I was hearing "Doesn't really matter" the words echoed around my head, I waited until they had left the shop and phoned Social Services......... I just hope that little boy is somewhere safe now!

Well, Joe may well be a short term thing....but Rage have been around for a logn time and will continue to be so. Even when they had 7 years apart on other projects (Solo and Audioslave), they still wrote tunes together. RATM will be far from a limited phenomenom as they have a huge worldwide fanbase.

Killing In The Name Of is as anthemic as Smells Like Teen Spirit at Heavy Metal Night Clubs and Pubs.

Whether Cowell has shares in Sony or not, he does not own Sony like he does Syco Music. At best he would have a minority share holding like my Parents have shares in several companies.

With Rage being number 1, he would only gain if Sony shares went up and he sold them. Rage being number 1 may even increase any yearly dividend by a few pennies.

He has no direct benefit from Rage being number 1, which is what you were saying by commenting that percentages went into his pocket. If you look at all of the acts that he has managed, signed etc etc, they are all purpose made groups or acts through tv shows, reality shows etc...

With every interview I see him mentioned in, the more I am glad that Joe didn't get to number 1. It shows that X-Factor is waning, as is all reality TV. Taking number 1 for granetd is something that he appears to have done. They are even talking about moving the show a few weeks forward so they do not have to go through this again. The thing is, from the soudn of the couple who organised this, they are not in it for the christmas number 1, but rather preventing X-Factor type shows spawning immediate and predictable number 1's from a winner of a show.

If they do it next year, I hope they use the Pogues / Kirsty MacColl song "Fairytale Of New York".

The viewing figures for some reality shows has actually gone up not down. Admittedly, Strictly, Big Brother, Wife Swap etc have lost viewers by the droves. If you look at viewing figures for the year, Cowell's 2 shows - X Factor (19 million viewres) and Britains Got Talent have the highest figures for the year.
