Showmasters Admin slaycandy Posted December 12, 2009 Showmasters Admin Share Posted December 12, 2009 (edited) Guest Talks Questions! If you have a particular question that you would like asked at the guest talks, we now have a new way of submitting these to Massive Events prior to the convention! On each of the Massive Events' websites there is now a Guest Talks Questions submission form that you can fill out - all we need is your question, and the name of the guest you want it asked to. These questions will all be read and checked prior to being used at the weekend. The best (and most varied) questions will be selected and used during the guest talks each day of the event. For those of you that have been to a Massive Events convention in the past and seen the system of filling out a small paper form and leaving it in a box, this is basically the same procedure, but it helps us to get more organised prior to the event so that you get the best range of questions on the day! Please do not post your questions on the forums as they won't be checked, if you do have a question please fill out the form. We look forward to reading the questions that you come up with and hope that this makes the guest talks run more smoothly in the future! To submit a question for Hallowhedon 2: CLICK HERE! SJ x PS. Please note, only submit questions to guests that are currently confirmed to be attending an event, not guests that you hope will be there. [if you do these questions will be deleted from the inbox, so if the guest is later announced we will not have your question!] Or alternatively, submit questions that can be asked to any and all guests. Thanks! Also just a quick continuation of SJs PS. Please don't submit questions that are obviously inappropriate. These include questions with any "Proposals" in them. Be it "Will you marry me?", "Will you sleep with me?", "Can I have your babies?" or even "I love you!". They mean nothing to anyone accept you and so are pretty selfish. Also to be honest this type of question is NEVER really appropriate apart from between consenting adults that know each other very well, and so are definitely not appropriate at a talk with 800 attendees. The people that read them to choose which one's are read out really don't need to read about your personal attraction and physical wants. They will not be read out and so there really isn't any point in sending them in. This type of question is one of the reasons that we have an MC in the first place. So please do keep your personal yearnings to yourself. Edited December 12, 2009 by slaycandy

buffy2k
I'd like to see a nice range of questions this time too, but we can only ask questions to Tony as we dont know who the other guests are yet so i hope the guests are in place quicker than this year as it was all too late really to ask individual questions for people only signed up last minute really I also hope we are not going to get the same odd questions as at the all guest talk on the sunday, this did not work and the guests werent too impressed with them either they werent about the shows or the characters and they didnt know how to answer them.I've been to other conventions and the closing ceremony has the guests thanking everyone and talking about their weekend, even this would be better. i'll be asking fans who may not go to this con to submit questions too so there are plenty to choose from. Moderators etmuse Posted December 15, 2009 Moderators Share Posted December 15, 2009 (edited) The all guests talks can be tricky for questions - you don't want to ask 'odd' questions, but in the same vein, you definitely don't want to ask the same old questions that have already been answered in interviews and the like 4000 times. (I've seen many an actor/actress groan in these sort of talks when asked how they got the part or how they got into the business - we need to be more imaginative!) And questions specifically about someone's character are generally better served (I feel) in the talks with 1/2 guests - the all guest one you really want as many as possible that ALL of the guests can answer. *is thinking hard on questions that are generic enough to be asked to any group of guests we might get, but not 'odd', sufficiently related to their show experiences and not ones they'll already have answered too many times to count* Edited December 15, 2009 by etmuse
Elspeth
I shall be asking: If you could be any drink what drink would you be? If you could be any sandwhich what sandwhich would you be? If you could be any cheese what cheese would you be? If you could be any fruit what fruit would you be? etc etc etc...... Ok maybe not....they are the WORST questions EVER! buffy2k
thank god for that i was getting worried then, i am sure people can come up with decent questions not like these Elspeth. As a buffy con regular i probably know answers to most questions too but a lot of the people last year were newbies who may not know the answers so may be interested to hear the same questions, its a hard one but you have to accommodate new fans even if you have heard the answers before. Moderators etmuse Posted December 16, 2009 Moderators Share Posted December 16, 2009 I've never actually been to a Buffy/Whedon con, but there are some questions that even just reading an interview or two you can see have been asked over and over and over. Questions that have been asked before that have interesting answers are one thing, questions that the guest is going to groan (internally or not) and think 'not this question again!' we want to avoid. Questions like 'how did you get the part?' are very rarely interesting (99.9% of the time it's either 'they asked me' or 'I auditioned') (I have been to a few Torchwood events, and Gareth David-Lloyd now actually refuses point blank to answer the question 'what was it like kissing John Barrowman?' cos he's been asked it too many times. And yet some idiot always asks it.)
vampiric_kitten
Instead of asking them how did you get the part for something different why not ask "Can you act out your audition piece for us" lol
Kelsbells64
Instead of asking them how did you get the part for something different why not ask "Can you act out your audition piece for us" lol YES! thats a good question At events when people are allowed to ask questions and you see the guest roll their eyes at the stupidity/rudeness or mundaness is awful. I once heard a very rude man ask summer glau how she felt about being ranked in the fhm top sexy woman. she was so uncomfortable but it didnt stop the guy with a follow up. I bet James Marsters get asked the john barrowman question all the time too. Although from last years hallowhedon I much prefered listening to him talk about his working with Juliet - he sparkled. Am going to attempt to think of a few good questions and none for steve the pirate

Although when we've all had a few drinks who knows? There really were some awful questions last year, 'James Marsters, if you could be any animal, what would you be?' and crap like that. I asked whether the guests (I aimed it at all of them) watched Dollhouse, and what they thought of it (it was very topical at the time, it was just before it was cancelled), but obviously asking Mercedes 'I'm as stupid as I look' McNab to compare herself to a wall was a better question. This year, I've asked Alan 'So! That picture of you with Joss, Nathan and Adam... What's the deal with that?!'. Not the greatest question (I much prefer the serious ones, where the guests really tell you something about themselves), but we're all desperate to know what it was. And if nothing else, it'd make him squirm in his seat!

And if nothing else, it'd make him squirm in his seat! i think that someone needs to keep their dislike for a certain guest to themselves. maybe that guest was nervous as there was 700 people staring at her!!!! Anyway, last year Mark Lutz complained about all the inane questions that were being asked but i have an answer for that. Yes, everyone at the con was there because they are big fans of the work of Joss Whedon and they don't mind talking about the work they have done for Joss, but if the guests want us to be their fans and watch anything they do in the future they need to realise that we need to get to know THEM as a person in order to decide if we want to be a fan or not and we ask inane questions to find out how their mind works and what kind of person they are inside. Well that's the way I see it anyway, so if you want to ask inane questions I say go for it. e.g. If you were to be reincarnated, what would you like to come back as and why? Let's face it, their answer is going to be entertaining and give an insight as to what kind of person they are. Let's not see them just for the characters they played years ago! If you disagree please feel free to say so. (accept robertfryett, i think you should keep your rude comments to yourself)

Dan Ryan
I'm deff going to submit a question for each actor/actress if i can, since many of last years questions were a little painfull to sit through (in a you could tell the guests thought they were terrible questions kinda way - which they were). dragonsanddaffodils
I would imagine that from the organisers point of view, the more questions submitted the better. You never know, the questions that work the best can vary with the mood of the guest or even the atmosphere at the con at the time, so the more varied the questions, the better
yellowmarlin
I'd just like to apologise in advance to anyone who gets fed up hearing my name getting read out during the guest talks. I've lost count how many questions I've submitted now, some of them several times over possibly.
