Does anyone cosplay at this event?

Hi folks!

My friend and I are working on a photographic project, featuring cosplayers from around the uk. Will anyone be in cosplay for Eclipse 3? Or can you guys remember how many people dressed in cosplay at the previous Eclipse events?

If we come to Eclipse, it will be on the Saturday.

Thanks!

Rob

From personal experience, the 'conventions' don't tend to have many cosplayers. It's more at signing events like Collectormania and London Film and Comic Con.

The 'conventions' are more scheduled and as such, there's not room for just random cosplaying I suppose.

The only costuming that tends to happen would be for the parties I think.

I don't think that's necessarily the case. There tend to be a lot of people dressed up in ME events evenings, although the difference is that the themes tend to be follwoed more closely than at other events. Conventions by other organisers tend to have more cosplayers and often have costume competitions.

Well yes, a general discussion over the popularity of cosplay at conventions all across the board would get some different answers.

Rob wants to know what to expect, and it is generally the case that it rarely happens at ME cons that I've experienced, apart from at the parties. So I wouldn't expect much, especially with the lower attendance.

Thanks for the replies everyone. So, it seems like the best time for us would be Saturday evening? That's doable.

Just to elaborate a little, the project I mentioned is a photography book, to be released later in the year. The working title is - you guessed it - "Cosplay Fever". There are big gatherings of cosplayers which everyone knows about (and which we'll attend) but we want to include coverage from as many different events as possible.

If anyone is planning to cosplay at Eclipse on Saturday afternoon, then we would love to work with you, so speak up and spread the word! We're interested in cosplayers of all ages, skills, shapes and sizes.

Perhaps if anyone is planning to dress up for the evening shindig, we could persuade them to give us a sneak preview earlier on? That way we could get some nice outdoor shots, assuming it's not raining all day.

Thanks again for your time, folks. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.

Cheers,

Rob

I kinda do. I have both of Claire's cheerleading uniforms that I usually wear on alternate days at ME cons... The one I was planning to wear on the Sunday is vastly superior to the Saturday costume though!

Rob,

Have you contacted Mark (owner of Massive Events) to let him know you are coming and what you are doing?

This is a paid entry event and so especially at the Saturday night party you will be expected to have an offical con badge to enter the venue. I am of course assuming (based on your adhoc arrival times) that you have not bought a ticket and so you will need to discuss with Mark about having some kind of press pass.

From a professional point of view this should be done before the event and not just expected when you arrive.

If you have already done this then great, I just don't want you to just turn up expecting to be allowed free entry.

Stuart.

Hi Stuart

I spent some time explaining the project in an email to Showmasters, with a request for press passes, but I did not get a reply. We've exhibited a number of times at Showmasters events, including Collectormania Midlands, and we're back at the LFCC in the summer (we make the Tozzer comics), so the showmasters folks know who we are. They're a friendly bunch, and I'm sure when we explain everything again, in person, they'll accommodate us as best they can. The Park Inn has a bar and there's a park next to it, so we don't have to actually be in the event to get coverage, but it would obviously be preferable, especially in the evening.

Psychosis - no no, swap days and wear the nicer one on Saturday! Please, pretty please? :)

Rob
