Knowing what to get signed at a SM event

How do you decide what you want to have signed at a SM event?! I find it is impossible to get everything you want signed, especially with guests who have been in tons of stuff. I'd love to get posters signed, but some cost a lot, there's the lack of wall space and also you might find having a book or DVD signed is better. This dosen't include having a signed 8x10 photo. I'm on about non-8x10 photo items.

One sheet poster or mini-poster. I only get a DVD signed if I dont have a poster already somewhere. I only have posters of my favourite films, some are framed, some are rolled up awaiting their turn in the frame - I alternate them. I never get 8x10s signed cos autos should be on display, not tucked away in a folder and at least the DVD is something you take out and fire up in your player from time to time.

I occasionally go for 8x10s, if it's a particular actor/actress where I don't plan on getting some group of signatures. i.e. someone like Erin Gray. But normally I'd go for posters. I tend to keep them rolled up in a tube - like you, not enough wall space! I'd only get a book signed if it was an author.

never really understand people getting books signed-the biggest example being people who get Harry Potter and Twilight books signed by people in the movie-HUH? :( I know people sometimes get "companions" signed cause they want to collect alot of sigs in one place, this is usually Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Twilight or Stargate from what I've seen-sometimes there's not the right poster out there!

never get DVDs/sleeves signed because they soon run out of space and alot of guests have a tendency to sign their auto rather massive! and always over something important, like the title! :( plus DVDs are not the easiest thing to display :D

true most of my autos are in a file with acid-free sleeves but my faves adon my wall :P I'm just worried about light damaging them as I swear my Michael Shanks one has faded since 2002 :( (the photo not the sharpie!)

I also had some mags signed at premiers, the kind you get at the movie theatres, and they are in the file as I am not sure how I would display them :P (any ideas anyone?) the mags are paper so stleast the sigs can't lift like when framing 8x10s (a reason why mine mostly live in the folder!)

To save the Ke Huy Quan thread from going further off topic I'll start a separate thread off.

Continuing the discussion....

If I have a book signed, nine times out of ten it's a companion or episode guide book (for example, I'm hoping to get my Hawaii Five-O and Dallas books signed by George Kennedy). I'd love to get several James Bond posters signed, but along with the lack of wall space buying an original poster is expensive. My favourite James Bond posters are the ones for Dr. No up to Licence to Kill, with the Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker and A View to a Kill posters being my favourites.

i haven't had any other items signed such as posters and dvds because for the past 6 years i have been in two different uni's and moving accom every year means you never quite know what size accom you have.

With so much boxing and unboxing it will be typical that i destroy or rip something hence i only go for the photos there at the show, once i have settled i would like to get those pictures i have seen at the convention smoky greyed pictures of different casts

My friend got her Rimmer made my little pony signed by Chris Barrie once, which i think was the weirdest he had seen

wow Petra did not know you mods could do such wonderful things with topics :P

no one has any suggestions for displaying signed mags then? ah well! :P

to answer the topic thread, I pretty much see what 8x10s are on offer and if I REALLY don't like the photos offered (back in the day there were some well pixelly ones, for example Alexander Sidig had some awful ones at C7) then I will look round the dealers but then (remember I've always been broke :D) I feel cheated if I end up spending £4 on an 8x10 then the £15/20 for the auto :D sometimes I just don't bother getting an auto-guests usually come back somewhere along the way :D (obviously if they are a rare guest, then I go for it :P)

I usually go for original lobby cards or programmes which you were able to pick up when a movie was released they are still pretty cheap and quite easy to get hold of.

My favs movies i always get original posters but the above are nice and different options to the mass produced 10x8 photos.

For my Star Wars (ep 1-3) I get posters signed two of them are original and the other is a Japanese poster which I really like and it always gets a good reaction from guests as it is a little different. For episodes 4-6 I tend to have 8x10's as I don't want to damage my original posters that cost me a lot of money. For everyone else it really depends on who it is and if I think that I will be able to get a good group of signatures for it.

I've copied some stuff over, let me know if there's more that you'd like to go here.

Sorry for editing the topic title by accident, SunSpeed!

I haven't been on the forum since last night, and the thread title appears to be the same, so I can't see anything different with the thread title. It looks like all of the relevant posts from the Ke Huy Quan thread are here.

Thanks for moving the relevant posts over to this thread.

An advantage with the re-packaged James Bond UE DVDs is the DVD is covered by an outer DVD cardboard sleeve, which gives you more room to get signatures on. I wouldn't get every single person who appeared in one particular Bond film to sign it's UE DVD (for example one of the extras or an actor/actress who had a very small role).

Regarding the size of a signature I feel like asking the guest to sign their signature smaller but I think I might be being rude.

I think SM give the guests some guidance on how to sign - for example on cast photos or film posters pop your name next to your character's picture, and write the character's name underneath. But if you want something different, it's your money, so just go ahead and ask them.

Me, I can do without the character name, so I've taken to asking them not to write their character name, really politely of course! For really big stars of a film (not necessarily big stars, but big in the context of a given film) I generally ask them to sign as big as they like :)

Just make a joke of it - leave room for everyone else please :D

Claudia Christian's is massive, give her a blank page she will fill it!

Personally, I switch between posters and 8*10s. I have a Thai Fellowship poster that I get signed, and relented at the Carrie Fisher CM and got her, Billy, Dave P, Kenny, and Peter Mayhew on an Empire Strikes Back orig 1-sheet (not the gwtw style). I think Carrie was worth getting on an orig poster.

Question is for this show.. orig OHMSS poster or reissue...?

Always got to be an original for me!

For me it's : -

Definites

* Raiders One Sheet - George Harris

* Temple One Sheet - Ke Huy Quan

* Last Crusade One Sheet - Kevork Malikyan

As for the Indy 'stormtrooper' guests, I'm in two minds, but I probably won't come up for two days just for them. Peter Pacey at least had a memorable moment in Crusade, and if he was there on Saturday that would be fine - we'll see what happens.

* Tron One Sheet - David Warner

I regretted not meeting him last time - and with Boxleitner doing LFACC it's the perfect opportunity to put that right. I'm sure Cindy Morgan will turn up at some point. Bridges sadly I can't see ever doing this sort of event, which is a pity.

Probables

* Some sort of Predator item (haven't decided yet) - Sonny Landham

Possibles

I *may* get a OHMSS one sheet for George Lazenby.
