Aradia
“Edward and Bella didn’t want me to influence you, no one was allowed to talk about it or to expect anything but…†I struggled vainly to understand; to get past the sudden shock, the hurt. It was like being betrothed at birth, the bouncy baby girl gets a teddy bear, a blanket, one of those sweet little Christening bracelets…and a fiancée. A block of ice formed in my throat and dropped to the pit of my stomach, the walls began to close in and the promise bracelet he’d made for me weighed my wrist down like a lead manacle. My whole future, all the plans I’d been making, were suddenly not mine to make, I was his, I’d always been his. Jacob was smiling at me! Smiling in such an arrogant confident way, like he expected me to fling myself into his arms, he even had them open, waiting. To me they suddenly looked like the jaws of some horrific snare set to trap and hold me. He loved me, made some kind of mystical claim on me. “Come on Nessie.†“Renesmee.†The playful turn of his lips froze his eyes suddenly wary and confused. “What?†I held his gaze letting all of my new found resentment colour my words so they had as much impact on him as his twisted little confession had had on me. “My name is Renesme. Ruh-nez-may.†He winced as though I’d slapped him, raw pain twisted his face, his hands half raised as though he wanted to clutch at the ragged hole I was slowly tearing through his heart. I was cold to it, spoiled brat that I was all I could think about was me, my life, how he’d claimed my future. Fate be damned and God or whatever could smite me from here to Volterra but I was not born to be a werewolf housewife! I was six years old!! Six! And he was already picturing our mutant hybrid cubs rolling around in animal blood at our feet! Wouldn’t we make the best home movies? Oh look little Jacob Junior’s just mauled his first deer to death, how cute. It was insane, it was sick and it was way too much for me to handle. So I did what any rebellious teen would do…I ran away to Brazil. It’s not like it sounds, I did have a good reason for heading straight for the rainforest. The first was that it was the one place I could be sure Jacob wouldn’t find me - 1.7 Billion acres of rainforest, even he couldn’t track me through that, mystical gravitational pull or not! The second was prey. Where better to find animals to slack my thirst than the Amazon? And the third? The real draw, the ultimate rebellion against Jacob’s mystical ball and chain. Nahuel, the only male (as far as I knew) half vampire-half human hybrid in the world. So I was a freak, but I was a freak with options.
