Hows your costumes going?

Recommended Posts

As you know some people on SM are making costumes for C5 mine are:

Eowyn shieldmaiden

Elven armor

and my back up of Eowyn kick ass

Well just so you know I started the armor last week and so far I have 1 finger guard and a vest. I should be starting the actual armor soon. The Eowyn shieldmaiden I have also started on Satrday 22nd and nearly finished. Apart from the details on the corset

So if your doing a costume, wether you've started or nearly finished and even if you haven't finished post here

I've collected most of the materials I need now to make my costumes, it's just a case of kicking my lazy butt into gear to make them. Having said that, I have made a start on the trousers for the Dernhelm costume and a template for my sword is made.

I'll update for my friend too - her Legolas costume is going great and she's nearly finished making all modfications to it, apart from the boots. She now has white knives that look brilliant! :D

Cool sarowyn, your going as Dernhelm? I'm gonna wait till C6 to do that, my elven armor is taking up alot of my time at the moment. I've just finished buying the sleeve material for my Eowyn dress so i should be finished by this weekend I hope. I still don't know what to make my actual armor out of, any ideas anyone>

Yep! Dernhelm and Arwen (Chase dress)...I was only going to do the Dernhelm, but I saw a fabric that was perfect for arwen and couldn't resist! Oy, I hate being obcessed sometimes... I can't believe you've almost finished one costume and I've barely started! I love the sleeves on Eowyn's clothes, just the flared stuff is cool.

As for armor...what kind of armor is it? Is it plates of metal across the chest or more of a leather thing?

Its the golden elven armor that is worn at the battle of helms deep

Hmmmm.... You could try painting or even using gold leaf on fabric to get that kind of look to it - especially if you varnished it afterwards. The only problem with that is, you'd want to stiffen your fabric first so that when it bends varnish wouldn't chip/flake off.

Unless you wanted to use real metal...I'm no expert at all, but I do know a little bit about metal working (how to do rivets, filing the stuff and couple of ways of getting pattern onto it), if that's at all helpful you could email me - vounda@hotmail.com - and I'd do my best to be of some help to you!
