I'm sure you wont be the only one =\

But at least they've given you good notice, instead of turning up there on the day, and being told you havent got a room o_O

I got worried after reading about this, so I just gave them a call to confirm my booking and they told me that I was booked in and everything was o.k.  Am relieved now.

Yes, we have too. I received an email this afternoon. We booked back in April, so are not at all happy about it.

I've just had an email to say they've moved me too.  Can't say I'm pleased, but I suppose it's better to have a room over the road than no room at all!

i would ask for a discount on the rate then cause if you booked back at the begining of the year you would have got the ibis for 120 for the whole weekend...if ther going to charge you the 60 a night your not getting as good a deal as ibis dosen't include breakfast either....just a heads up.

Um, Ibis should be cheaper! If you'd booked either at the same time, Ibis would be a lot cheaper, just minus breakfast... Look up prices online and check what prices are for next Nov so you know what the advanced rate is. Phone up Park Inn once all your facts are straight and say that you want to pay the same as what you would have done for Ibis in May. And you want them to pay for breakfast- compensate you for your loss. Its only fair!

If they say no, take this up with SM because they have the deal with Park Inn for the weekend, and its not fair to mess ANY of you about.

Second *star* to the right, and straight on till morning!!

I was informed that breakfast was included and that it was the same price. Also told that the reservations had been "block booked" for the moment and they won't be told the names until Monday.  So I'm waiting until then for a reservation confirmation number.

Just got confirmation on our room, saying reservation is confirmed at Park Inn.  I was rather surprised to get any notice at all form them, but pleased they did to no everything is okay.

Is it various rooms being refurbished or single, double or twin rooms?  Might be why it’s only a selected few?

Yes, it should. I checked into prices when I booked six months ago. The main annoyance I have (apart from walking back and fro) is that the chance of net access in the room is unlikely given the claim of, "some with wireless Internet access" on the Ibis website. When I asked Park Inn about assurances that this would be available the question was ignored.

That is possible as I booked in June and the Park Inn was sold out.

Generally I've been happily surprised with actual hotel provision of wifi compared to their website claims; I've generally found the hotel provision to be better than their website blurb (across several chains). It may well be an intent to avoid claims of false advertising. The Inis at Northampton has 151 rooms; to be honest that "some" with wifi could be 10 or 140. And maybe those without wireless access do have cabled access.
I would suggest ringing the Ibis ((+44)1604 608900 / 01604 608900) and asking them how many of their rooms have wifi, and if their non-wifi rooms have other internet access provisions. Heck, whilst you're at it, you could explain that you're one of a number of bookings for the weekend in question being transferred across from the Park inn, and ask if there any chance of being allocated a room with wifi, and if so, can they do that now or would you need to ring back on Monday as that is when you understand the park are giving the Ibis the names of the bookings being transferred. - I know this is a bit of a pain in the backside, but you're more likely to get a decent resolution if you're a bit pro-active rather than just turning up and being miserable about it. Might also give you some peace of mind too, or failing that at least some facts to complain to the Park Inn with.
On the plus side, having stayed at both Ibis and Park Inn hotels in the last six weeks (albeit neither in Northampton), I found the Ibis to be nicer, cleaner and generally more pleasant, although I'll grant that may be down to the individual hotels. Also at the time, the internet deal at the Ibis was better. The Park Inn was £12 for 24 hours (restricted download) or £15 for 24 hours (unrestricted), whereas the Ibis was £10 for 24 hours unrestricted, plus that package also gave you all the pay movies free for the 24 hours too. Granted the movies may not be of much interest, but even just on the internet front it was cheaper at the Ibis.
Every time you post a huge signature, a cute fluffy little kitten dies.

Thank you for that! I've just called them and there's wifi in the lobby and some rooms, but all rooms have some sort of net access  :YAHOO:

I just phoned up and all they would say is that "at present" I still have a reservation. They are going through the list and bumping everyone who booked in May this year or later to the Ibis and it depends on how far back up that list they have to go. So as far as I can tell at the moment noones reservations at the Park Inn are confirmed until they have finished with their list today or tomorrow.

I have to say I am extremely unhappy about this.

I have booked into the convention hotel. I do not want to be bumped to the Ibis and it isn't the safest thing to have single girls traipsing back to the Ibis in the middle of the night. I really hope that Showmasters take this into account when deciding whether to use the hotel as a venue again.

Also to the extent that Showmasters can encourage them to finalise their list as soon as possible so that people can have some degree of comfort that they do actually have the hotel rooms they booked that would be helpful.

dont worry you walk back with us at night to ther ibis if you like there are a few of us over at the ibis.

If oyu know anyone staying at the park (when they have finished with their reorganisation) maybe a good idea to ask if you can leave stuff in their room during the day so you dont have to keep going back and forth all day to change etc if you forget anything.

sounds like the park have really messed up this time. Why on earth did they overbook by so many, knowing it was a convention and not a normal reservation you wouldnt expect many to cancel if any? Its all well and good but i go to northants quite a bit and i have seen both hotels, ibis looks better from the outside, all glass the park is blue and yellow and although its not too far it is across a busy main road and inconvenient to keep going back and forth if you didnt plan for it.  i'd make sure you all get the rate for the ibis if its cheaper too.

you want to be subsidised for breakfast at least seriously the ibis breakfast is awfull...

personaly i prefer the ibis but the park inn is conveniant so i can understand why your all getting anoyed, but i will say it again you would have only paid 120 for your ibis room if you booked in may for fri sat sun, 100 if you booked fri and sat... so if your paying 180 or 120 i would complain about it as your breakfast isn't included in the price of ibis...

and good luck with anyone who talks to the manager at the ibis he's italian and his acssent is amazing...
