The reason for the high price (And I will admit that it's a high price, as much as I love the guys who organised that event) is because the event was limited to about 200 or so people. When you look at the prices of a convention - guest appearance fees, accommodation, flights, security, venue costs and all the rest - usually you're splitting that between a few thousand people plus dealers stalls and recouping it in autographs / photos. In this case, it was limited number of people, the photo and autograph included and you got this souvenir chalice as well.

I didn't go. Far too expensive for me!

However, I did meet RDA in the states a couple of weeks back. He was nice but incredibly shy. He doesn't quite get the fact that fans travel so far and go out of their way for little old him, you know?

What I'm noticing at the moment though, and I think it will be the same until he really finds his feet with conventions, he won't go ANYWHERE without Amanda Tapping. She's done the con circuit more than a few times and he tends to hide behind her a lot until he settles in and gets going.

So I vote lets have them both at 7.2

YES PLEASE! :YAHOO: They're the two main guests on my wishlist for Chevron 7.2, unlikely, but would be great to have them both  :D Or even just one of them, but preferably both lol.

They did 5 half day sessions with 120 people in each session.  It was expensive, especially when you factor in the travel costs as it wasn't in the easiest to reach location but was well worth it and I'd do it again.

He specifically asked Amanda to attend with him because he knew she had done cons entirely dedicated to just her, so knew she would be comfortable with it.

I couldn't remember the numbers and sessions etc. I saw the price and couldn't afford it. In a way, I wish I had because I love the  team that organises Amanda's events, they're lovely people and know how to do a good con. That team and Showmasters are the only ones I trust.

As for the asking Amanda, yeah, I know that bit, but I'm not just talking about that particular event. He's done another convention since that event and is doing one in the next couple of weeks. He's doing more and more, but it's still only if he has Amanda with him. At this last one, Amanda went to sit down and he actually pulled her back to sit next to him because he wanted her there for protection!

As for people wanting both Amanda and Rick at a convention... I'm just not convinced it will happen. He only really did the last one because he was contractually bound and because he was in town anyway for the premiere of Continuum. The Amanda and Rick event people are talking about in the UK was different because it was predominantly a charity event with proceeds split between his two favourite charities. This is also what happened for him to agree to this convention in a couple of weeks. Showmasters would have to make a huge concession there for him to agree.

Amanda is a different matter entirely. She has a new show to promote, she's very much a people person and loves getting involved with her fans. She is choosy about who she does conventions with because she's been burned a few times, but I think with the new show out, she's becoming a little more accessible and making more appearances.

Oh yes - I was also at the English con with RDA & AT.  A very different con to any I've ever been at as it was effectively a half day session with the two guests.  But it was well worth staying in the town for a few days to get to know the other con attendees.

So even to me, it doesn't sound worth it - but we all seemed to have a really great time.  So I would have to say it was.  Oh, and Dan Shea being there as well didn't hurt one bit.
