MadOne
In some ways, this is the wrong place for this thread but I put it here deliberately as the people I wanted to answer the questions were more the attendees of the smaller type of event rather than those who go to the big events (LFCC, Collectormanias, and big cons organised by other people we don't mention). They are different sorts of events entirely to my mind. If this thread is moved / deleted, sorry for putting it in the wrong place! To my mind, of the main events are the photos, the autographs and the Q&A sessions at the convention itself. I know that some people love the photos they have with guests after the end of the event, some treasure the autographs for all time and some love the Q&A for a chance to sit and hear the guests speak and to ask them questions of varing degrees of seriousness. (heck, most of us love the lot but which is your favourite part) I know there are other events too but these three are usually the core of the convention IMHO. I love parties and the auctions (though my wallet doesn't) too as well as the things like Gary's talk. For me, the Q&A tops the three. The sigs are less important to me - sigs I buy and are not there for me are less important still. Both the sigs and the photos are to me, more chance to spend time with the guests (even if short times). But for me, the Q&A is quality time with them and it matters little to me that there are other people - friends - there as well. I also get to take my own pictures without interupting others. Works for me! So what is most important to you at these events? Edited June 17, 2008 by MadOne
loopymowse
what is most important to you at these events? The stage talks. I would happily purchase my attendance ticket for stage talks (aka QA sessions) if nothing else was happening (any auto's or photo ops). Some people go to signing events, as they like to collect autographs. I would attend events of talks, as they are my interest. Important task after a con for me is a cup of tea (when I am home from the con)!
Psychosis
Yes, I agree, those are the main three. Q&A most important to me, as it's something you ONLY get at the weekend cons - even the talks at LFCC/CM aren't quite 'the same'. It gives me such a positive feeling. Photos second most important - I must prefer them to autographs. To be honest I wouldn't be in floods of tears if there wasn't a signing session, although I do go just to keep myself occupied. After that, eh... don't care. At other cons I've rather enjoyed watching whatever videos they're showing on the big screens during down time. I hate parties so those don't matter to me. Delta666
The talks for sure - I quite like getting the autos I tend to do drawings and that makes them special, photo ops I can live without as I hate my photo being taken anyway, I am the most un-photogenic person in the Universe, and I only do them to get a precious few seconds with the guest, and they were included in the price this time too. But for me, it's the talks and meeting other equally obsessed SG-1, MS/Daniel fans :) None of my RL friends are in to Stargate so being able to talk about it non-stop is a real treat :)
1.618
As it was my first con i'd say that i enjoyed all of the above. it really made my life to meet people from my favourite tv show and have my photo taken with them. Also with the autographs, they are personalised so special too. I couldn't make any of the parties as i was working nights over the weekend aso can't really comment on them. I used to be the most unphotogenic person in the entire universe too. I started having con photos 7 years ago, and they were unbelievably bad. They kept being unbelievably bad. I just said to myself "Keep going, keep having them taken, AND ONE DAY YOU WILL BECOME PHOTOGENIC!" So I kept going, and 7 years and 50+ photos later, I am actually happy with the ones that I get now Although I'm sure part of it is to do with Malcolm, he's wonderful. Psychosis
Yup, that's him. He's great, although he terrified me the first time I saw him, haha. (Hayden Panttiere/Adrian Pasdar & Milo Ventimiglia, it was hurried!) I think the photos this weekend have been two of my very best, actually... I wonder if he did something different

He is great isn't he, he makes you feel so at ease as well. Unfortunately, at my age, there's no longer any room for improvement LOL - maybe Photoshop can be my friend *wink*
Dallista
Strange as this may sound, probably the most important thing to me is the convention disco. I disliked any sort of dancing until I went to a Stargate con in the UK back in 2004, and there I got hooked on the con discos. These days, my friends and I never go to a convention without bringing backup CDs with all the traditional convention disco songs, just in case the DJ isn't aware of the kind of music people like to dance to at these events. :) Edited June 17, 2008 by Dallista

sadfan99
This was my first proper con so I can say that the talks were probably the best thing about the event (I have not laughed so much, or been so interested in 2 people talking for ages).............could have listened to their stories for hours! Second was the gold ticket cocktail party where I inadvertantly got blottoed (thanks for the continual top-ups of wine Jason ) but still didn't disgrace myself and managed to have 3 really interesting conversations with Carmen, Gary and Michael (and as I only managed to say 3 words to Michael the last time I met him - 'hello' and 'thank-you' this was a huge achievement for me). Third were the photo shoots where strangely enough Carmen and Michael remembered me from the Cocktail party the night before and the piccies came out really really well (thanks Malcolm - and you strangely suit pigtails by the way ) I also made 2 new friends and got to know so many more people and laughed so much - had a great time The parties would probably have been much better if I had not overdone it on the Friday to be honest - but I can take or leave the parties. the first thing I've done coming home after the con is catch up on some sleep! My only niggle was the 'quality' of the hotel food - I'm practically a vegetarian as I am really picky about food and I wasn't geared up to eat out every night so that was a bit disappointing. Having said that, the Cocktails were ace (tried them all)

loopymowse
Smart alec. I mean biggest the rosey glow between the massive sleep debt (that is catching up with me at work today...) I should have said sleep I made the right choice with booking Tuesday as well as Monday off work after Chevron 7. I was able to unpack, sort camera (despite only being blurry images), fetch some groceries and sleep The very first task when I get in my house after any travel away from it is to switch on the kettle and make myself a cup of tea. It is my priority before any unpacking or anything else.
