"Rail maintenance workers will strike on the weekend of 14-15 June over jobs and conditions, the RMT has said.

The union said more than 12,000 Network Rail staff in England, Scotland and Wales would walk out for 30 hours from midday on the Saturday. "

Just a warning for anyone who was planning to go home sunday!

Yikes! Don't they know there's a con on? ;) I'm kidding.

I really hope I get home alright, not stranded in Northampton. The hotel won't keep me past the con :(

This will not impact services unless problems arise that would prevent a train safely travelling on the rails. The staff from Network Rail do not operate the trains, but just fix/maintain the tracks. Having worked for the old British Rail I know that train maintenance staff, not part of the striking Network Rail staff, will more than likely be called in to cover. This has happened in the past, and will probably do so that weekend mentioned. So, fingers crossed that the correct type of leaves fall on the track..otherwise you is knackered.. ;)

Damn - a strike. So I might be back late to the job which is disappearing soon where there is no effective complaint that they could make if I can't be there on time?

[You've got to look on the positive side. But if the strike was starting Friday early afternoon, I'd be ****ed off!]

It might even make train services better over the weekend - let's face it, if the maintenance staff are all on strike, they won't be closing off great sections of the track for them to do engineering work, will they? :D

(OK, it probably doesn't work that way but I'm trying to think positive...)
