hello all

Well I am finally getting to meet a moon walker!

I have my gold ticket, booked to hear Jim McDivitt on the saturday but as this will be my first time at an autographica show I don't know how these things work so if there are any helpful hints, tips, general advice, do's/don't anyone can give it would be much appreciated!

cheers

This is my tenth Autographica and all I can say is enjoy the whole thing, take your time, expect queues, you will meet other space enthusiasts like myself as well as other the usual autograph hunters, there will be stall holders selling some great stuff and not to forget that the Astronauts and Cosmonauts have some great 10x8 photos on there tables,in case you forget to bring anything to sign.

I dare say many more people can help by adding there opinions but I dare say they have the same thing to say as I have but what I enjoy the most is shaking hands with someone who HAS made history,I am very much looking forward to Jim McDivitts talk,I would like to ask him if Ed White had as much TROUBLE squeezing back in as did Gene Cernan after his EVA on Gemini 9.

Cheers,Alex.

Pace yourself during the day - give yourself time to browse around and go for a bevvy etc. I orientate myself at the start by having a leisurely walkabout to see who is where etc.

Expect some large queues, especially for Dave Scott I should reckon.

Think up some chit-chat whilst getting your picture signed, I remember asking Al Bean about the Apollo 13 film! (talking of which, wasn't Dave Scott quite involved in that?)

Read up on the missions and so you'll be able to ask some interesting questions at the lectures.

Don't know if there's a cashpoint at this place so you may have to take good old cash?

Do what I do and take a picture you can get future autographica astronauts to sign, I've got an earthrise picture signed by about 6 Apollo astros so far that I'm bringing along this time.

Take a folder or something to keep your signed pictures safe.

Like the guy said, get a handshake!

I've done plenty of Collectormania (and other shows... shhhh) but only really done 1 Autographica. I got Buzz at his first show, AFAIK, and got his autograph for my nephew's christening, and my reward was to shake Buzz's hand. I'm not as much into the astronauts as some guys. I heard one guy dropped 2K on Buzz that Friday night alone.....

I sttayed at the hotel in question the other week, and am interested which rooms/suites they'll be using. The place is bigger than the Radisson Heathrow, seemingly.

As for cashpoints, there is one at the exit of one door, plus it's within walking distance of the ***** that has a few. Only problem there is you have to walk round to get to any useful entrance.

This is my first time at an Autographica. Will the celebs charge extra for using the photos they have on their tables on top of their signing fees.?I'm just wondering whether I should bring unsigned photos to the event or whether I can rely on the celebs to provide the photos?

At last 3 Autographicas the show has provided free pictures to be signed (when you buy an autograph). I have no reason to believe this one will be any different.

Yeah thats right cause at the one before those 3 they were charging £1 and that was fun with the change

This is my first Autographica and I am very much looking forward to it. I hope to meet some other people from here who are also planning on going.

I have a few questions:

1.) Which is the best day to go if you don't like crowds? It sounds encouraging that the autograph room will be air-conditioned, because it's terrible where the other event in Birmingham is held.

2.) Are there places to sit in the autograph room or is it standing room only (it can be awkward when you're trying to get a signed 8 x 10 b & w/colour photo into a plastic A4 folder while people are walking through or around you at the other event in Birmingham)?

3.) Is the Hilton Metropole's car park charge a set charge or does it vary? I looked on one website for the hotel earlier and I saw a charge of £7 on a page for the hotel.

4.) Can you leave the hotel and go back to the autograph signings later on in the same day? I've seen something on one of the websites for the hotel which could mean you can do that (leave the event for a break then come back later).

5.) Will it be possible to hand in a list of guest suggestions for a future Autographica (it saves posting them all on the forum here)?

1: Autographica doesn't usually get THAT busy, either day will be fine, but Sunday is usually a bit quieter.

2: We don't usually have sitting in the autograph rooms, there isn't the room. But it's not rushed so you usually have time to put things away on the signing table before you leave.

3: Sorry I don't know.

4: Yes you can leave and come back.

5: Yes give it in the reg desk.
