Showmasters Admin showmasters Posted January 14, 2008 Showmasters Admin Share Posted January 14, 2008 I want to say somthing we are dedicated to Collectormania Glasgow we had to start some were and walk before we run as the other event organisers left Glasgow saying no one could make an event in Scotland work as the people there do not seem to want events of this kind well we did not believe them you all proved them wrong as well so we are here to stay and bring Glasgow an event to be proud of we did book a lot of local adds totaling over £10,000 and even more nationally and we paid for radio ads as well so all in all we did give it a big push but the fans do not get to see all what we do behind the scenes but we will be doing a lot more this year to grow the event for 2008 as to the event we got a great feed back from the dealers and 99 % of them wanted to rebook as they were so happy with the show and the public also seemed happy with what they got from the show, so all in all the show went well and will become bigger thanks to you all for sporting the show and insuring the people of Scotland can go to a Collectormania see you there in August jason
buydezignmodels
As one of the dealers I have to agree we had a great response, customers were saying that it was great to have a show in Scotland and how they couldnt wait for the next one. We were pleased with the venue too, plenty of places to eat etc. looking forward to the next one Lynn and Daz (buydezignmodels)

killerinc1234
any chance of a event in aberdeen slim chance as there putting so much work into glasgow's one to get it off the ground plus aberdeen is with travel distance so it doesnt make buissness sense to have another one so near until glasgow is established

AmbersKnight
I was there at Glasgow 2007 and agree that it was a great success but as I look upon the guest list for this year so far as opposed to other events I can't help but feel we are getting the drabs....AGAIN! Where are the big draws which can really get the crowds in? You do have to speculate to accumalate, to get a big draw or two to ensure not only the scifi/fatasy fans turn up in numbers but also the general public who may otherwise have bodyswerved the event make a point of coming as well. As good as the guests are so far, there are no heavy hitters in the list yet and I fear there won't be unless serious time is given to the problem. My very great fear is that given the calendar year, Glasgow is given scant concern until nearer the time whilst other events have big names booked well in advance. Glasgow deserves better than that. So by all means have the event, but forthe love of God get some big names and heavy hitters up here to ensure a successful event. When you look at the guest wish list, of which I ahve placed one too, for Glasgow 2008 there is a wide range of stars that people have placed on their lists, from current hits to past classics, and all of them good and interesting choices. I do hope that when deciding who to ask to Glasgow, you do not ask the question "Can we get them for Glasgow?!. The only question you should be asking is "What big names are we gonna get to give the Glasgow event the boost it needs to be a serious and stable part of the calendar?" I too get annoyed when people say that Scotland is incapable, or unwilling, to host an event of this scale, and last year's event proved that "if you build it they will come". But to keep attention up you need to bring in some Premiership players, and not the minor leagues simply because it is Scotland. C'mon Showmasters, show that you mean real business here in Scotland and give us guests of the status of you intent. Because to be frank, so far your intent seems a little less than enthused, given the selection of guests so far. It's a good start to the guest list, but if Peter Davison is the best you can do, then it's simply nowhere near good enough.
Showmasters Admin showmasters Posted February 13, 2008 Author Showmasters Admin Share Posted February 13, 2008 Hi AmbersKnight I just wanted to say that the 1st Glasgow guest list was far better than the 1st Collectormania MK guest list back in 2002, so i think every one should stop and think about that first , and also remember that it takes time and dedication to build something good, we have the dedication but the time takes time i am afraid Having people support the event rather than being negative about it will only sever to damage what we are trying to do with the Glasgow show, but supporting it and spreading the word and getting fliers of us to give out in will only help make the event grow bigger faster so if you want to help the event do get in contact with us We invested more in the last show in Glasgow than any other event held there before other than World Con and with the success of the last event we will grow this show As to guests i would also like to point out that the LFCC only has 5 guests so far as well and that event is in July, but you do not see people saying the same about that show so lets chill and work together to put on a bigger and better show in Glasgow this year I would also like to thank all dealer's for thare faith in us and for supporting us from the start you all helped make this happen i hope you can see were we are coming from and we will see you all in August Jason
Scruffy
Why on earth some people would be moaning about guests so far in advance of Glasgow is beyond me. I am sure SM could sign and announce loads guests , but at this early stage , I am sure work commitments make it impossible for some to sign a contract. Give SM a chance , and am sure Jason will work his little socks off to get good guests for Scotland.
Alanistic
Collectormania Glasgow was my first Showmaster event and I thought it was fantastic. There was an amazing lineup of guests (John Rhys Davis in particular was a pleasure to speak with) and there was a great variety to what merchandise the dealers offered. I'd done the old Memorabillia events at the SECC in the past, but I think Braehead was probably a better venue too as passing shoppers could potentially stop in and have a gander. I'm looking forward to Collectormania Glasgow so hopefully you'll have a good response this year too. The Showmasters staff were also really pleasant to speak to and were surprisingly helpful. On some other events I've been to (I'm not mentioning any names) the stewards/staff were rude and abbrassive which left you leaving the event slightly annoyed and disatisfied...that was not the case with Collectormania Glasgow so thank you all and well done! firefly9
It was my first ever convention and thanks to it I've already been to one for my favourite tv show this year, I'm going to one next month, CG in August and another one in November. I'm hoping to attend LFCC too. If it hadn't been for CG2007, I don't think I'd have had the nerve to go to the others! Thanks Showmasters! (Also, meeting Gareth David-Lloyd was one of the highlights of last year for me so thanks for that too!)

Hammer_Of_Justice
Hey Guys im new to these forums. Last year was my first Collectormania event (I had attended the Memorabelia fairs at the SECC from time to time) and I must say I will certainly be returning this year. The atmosphere, the stalls and the guests (Robert Englund, Anthony Head and John Rhys Davis especially) were excellent and the overall feel of the event seemed a lot more laid back than the old Memorabelia fair which made for a very enjoyable experience. Overall, I cant wait to see what other guests are announced and cant wait to attend this years event.

Troymuse
Right Showmasters ! "2008 will be bigger" ?? Just because we're scottish, doesn't mean we deserve less attention. All these great things are happening down England with super amazing guests and loads of them. Glasgow has been getting no attention. It's really upsetting. Guests have been the same for months now and nothing is being done about it. You lied. Make it bigger. Please. It's not good for business or happy Scot's. kimmi
Heheh, I am getting impatient too, but SM have a few events to set up before tehy get around to Glasgow, so it's understandable!
Showmasters Admin Too Tall Posted April 9, 2008 Showmasters Admin Share Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) Right Showmasters ! As kimmi has said, SM have had a LOT of events to deal with and there are still 2 huge shows C13 and LFCC before Glasgow. LFCC hasn't had loads of announcements either. SM are growing the Glasgow show. No it's not suddenly going to be the size of the MK and London shows. SM need 6k+ attendees per day to make shows that size work. It's still not confirmed that attendee numbers of that size will come to a Glasgow event. So for the next couple of years the show will grow a bit at a time until SM know they will not loss large amounts of money running a BIG event there. Every event is a gamble. If they put on an event the size of MK or London in Glasgow and only 3k-4k people per day attended (twice the number of last year) they could loss over £50,000. Do you have £50k to gamble on this event? It's really not an simple as "let's make this show big!". SM believe in the Scottish market and are growing this show, you just need to be patient. As a final word.... SM are running a Glasgow event. They don't HAVE to. They are doing it to help YOU and other people in your area. Do you really think calling them liars and getting ar$ey is going to make them WANT to help you more! Personally if someone gets ar$ey with me when all I'm trying to do is help them it just makes me want to do the opposite. Please be patient and this event will grow. Kenny
I just wanted to say that it's fantastic having an event like this only an hour or so drive away from me - something I'm totally not used to! I will be there with bells on, and have the utmost confidence in the ability of SM to make it epic to the max
lollerskates
I'm not going to moan but I do hope more guests are announced, otherwise like someone else said, it is only going to attract a niche part of the population rather than the general public. As one of my friends said to me: "oh great, a pile of geeks fawing over darth vader" So far if you're not into Star Wars or Doctor Who (I'm not) then the guest list is really really bad. It might as well just be a Star Wars and Dr Who convention But I'm assuming many more guests will be announced! Hi everyone, just thought I'd make a quick post to say that I've just booked a dealer stand for Glasgow 2008, I'll be there and I'll be bringing Gordon.. You make those!?! Aw man, they are awesome!! Space_cowboy
I agree I hate to sound cheeky but Glasgow hardly get anything at the best of times, Last year was busier than I thought, but a lot of my friends would only go if it were Heroes/Buffy/Lost/ people there. As its not always conveniant to get down south. At the moment I doubt I would go, and I know theres a few events beforehand but surely another guest annoucment soon. 4 months ago not long
Kenny
I personally think that an attitude like that is pretty reprehensible. How do you expect an event to grow if it has no support from the public? Big names aren't just going to start going to a new place/event out of the blue... reputations need to be built up over time. Collectormania Glasgow 2008 needs to be a sellout event regardless of who is there, so it can be built into a bigger and better event - I'm only interested in one person who'll be there so far, and I'm going... killerinc1234
i plan to go to it regardless if big names are anncounced because it is 10 min away!!! however there is still plently of time -if it was the end of july/aug and we still only have 4/5 guests then yes i would be worried but as the event is still 4 months away i think it will be ok, as the london one only has about 10 guests and thats in july. i do hope though that we do get some of the heroes/buffy/angel guests even if they are repeat guests.
