Curtis is one of the very few remaining stars of the silver screen and to get the star of Some Like It Hot, Monte Carlo or Bust, The Boston Strangler, The Defiant Ones, Sweet Smell of Success AND Spartacus.....simply marvellous!!! Now if you could get Kirk Douglas, Doris Day, Mickey Rooney Sophia Loren and Charlton Heston... NB

TommyT
Now if you could get Kirk Douglas, 91 tomorrow, and as I understand it, still suffering from partial speech-impairment from a stroke 11 years ago. Doris Day, 83, and didn't attend the ceremony to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom (one of the two highest civilian awards in the US), a few years ago because of a fear of flying. Mickey Rooney 87, but at least he's still working ( I gather that he's due to play Baron Hardup in Cinderella, at the Sunderland Empire Theatre this Christmas panto season) Sophia Loren she at least seems to be reasonably active, plus the only one of your requests under the age of 75 and Charlton Heston... A similar age to Doris day, and if that's not enough of a problem, did you not see him interviewed by Michael Moore in Bowling for Columbine, filmed about 6 years ago? Did you miss his statement in 2002 that "his doctors had diagnosed him as having a "neurological disorder whose symptoms are consistent with Alzheimer's disease"."? Any reports on his health since have been that, unsurprisingly, he's getting worse, not better. Three of your requests I'd say are utter fantasy. Maybe the warmth of north-eastern panto crowds this Christmas will persuade Mr Rooney to come along.

rich5wolves
Great post. I agree with you three are a little too difficult to get probably. Although I have put an event on for early next year and the guest is pretty old. I didnt expect the agent to agree to the performance but if you dont ask. You never know I guess but................ Autog99
Fantastic that Autographica has got Tony Curtis - I thanked Garry at Birmingham last month for getting him. Wanted to meet Tony for years. Kirk Douglas - he has done three book signings in the last month or so in California, so he's still doing events. Not easy to get him of course but at least he's still signing. Jean Simmons would be a good one to pair with Tony Curtis too, with them both being in Spartacus. She's just worked on a new film due for release in 2008, called The Wreck, and according to Imdb it was filmed in Norfolk, so she's able to come to UK. And what an amazing filmography she has too - Great Expectations, Black Narcissus, Hamlet, Guys and Dolls etc. A true legend that I'm sure we'd all like to meet. Joan Fontaine would be amazing too - Rebecca is one of my fave films - according to Imdb: 'Joan, today, still appears on the stage and lecture circuit while traveling and writing in her spare time. She is, without a doubt, a lasting movie icon'. Can't wait for this Autographica - it's already shaping up to be the best one yet. Autog99
Some great guest suggestions there - i'd spend a fortune if all 3 of those appeared! Thanks. I know what you mean. When we get stars like this at Autographica it can be a one time only chance to meet them at a UK event, so its definitely worth the money. A bit more on Kirk Douglas - He introduced a special screening of Spartacus on Oct 3 in LA as part of 10 films with star intros, all screening on the same day to mark the 40th anniversary of the American Film Institute. The Spartacus screening took part in the largest capacity theatre of the 10 as a mark of how highly Kirk is thought of (other intros included George Lucas, Jack Nicholson, Clint Eastwood) - http://www.afi.com/tvevents/40th/default.aspx And he took part in a Thanksgiving charity event with Harrison Ford also in LA in Nov - http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5icYlVT...5tyl2OR8kK-RNGQ Of course it doesn't mean he'd do Autographica, but again it shows he is still active and doing as much as he can do. Apparently he also wants to make another movie: "I'd do it! I'm still a young guy!" So says the sprightly Kirk Douglas when asked if he'd make another movie. Sprightly indeed: The film legend recently turned 91. "I would like to make a movie with my son, Michael," says Kirk to celeb show Entertainment Tonight. Definitely love him to come to UK for anything at all.
