Lacklustre?

Maybe it was just because I had a cold, or maybe it was just because there was no-one there I desperately wanted to see, but did anyone else feel C12 was just a little bit dull? Even the people giving out v.t. seemed really bored by the whole affair, not knowing or even caring when the guests were due to start signing. No effort was made to organise the queues until two minutes before 10 when the people milling around were staring to block the shop fronts. Not that there were that many people attending on the Sunday, nice for wandering around the trade stalls and the fact most of the guests were open queues by 11:30, but?? :hathor:

Kudos to the cosplayers though - they were troopers (some literally!), always happy to stop and chat and have photos taken - nice one.

lovbug and I decided this time to go all three days and stay Friday and Saturday night nearby, after having a very stressful and not so pleasant time at C11 earlier in the year.

Although there perhaps wasn't such much of a hectic buzz due to the fact that we felt we had more time to experience and enjoy the event due to the extra time we allowed ourselves, we definitely both enjoyed it 100% more than C11.

This event seemed much more relaxed and well organized. We also thought that others attending the event seemed more relaxed on this occasion (as at C11 we heard no end of couples fighting).

The fact that most guests ended up being open queues was a real bonus for those trying to get signatures as it allowed more time with a guest and took a lot of stress out of the process.

After the insanity that was LFCC 2007 (I'm not ready to experience another literal stampeade like that any time soon!), I was glad for less of a buzz at CM12. The lack of rush to get to everyone was very welcome and I was able to take the morning at a nice, lesuirely pace once I'd got my VTs. I've no compliants.

Events can feel lacklustre if they follow a manic one like LFACC. I can understand how some people would view it like that. However, I think it's nice to have an event that isn't such a hassle to get all your autographs etc, and you're able to do everything you want without getting overly stressed.

Due to C12 not having any 'huge' guest, and simply a solid lineup, it all worked pretty smoothly through the majority of the weekend from what i could tell. Everyone I talked to had a good time and got what they wanted, so from that perspective it was great.

Sometimes it's nice to have a 'wow factor' as such (perhaps Patrick at C13 will provide that?) but at the same time, it's often more hassle than its worth, and it impacts on the overall enjoyment of the event in some cases.

I guess as with anything it just depends on your personal tastes - whether you prefer to have a few big guests, and you're happy to wait in big queues and fight through people etc, or a solid (if not outstanding) lineup with a calm ease about it.

I cant agree more, after LFCC this was exactly what I needed to just cool things down. the best part for me was it being in public shopping centre. overhearing "normal" people come by saying things like oh look at all these strange people.

"GEEK POWER!"

The crew handing out VT don't know when the guests are showing up. Generally, they show up around 10am, but their plans change and you can't blame the crew for that.

i went on sunday. and i said to my mate it was the busiest con ive been to in a while, but there was strangley no atmosphere. other ones (like held a week or so ago) everyone seems to be pals there and having a laugh. this one seemed like a load of shoppers shuffling around dawn of the dead stylee.

It was just nice to see the majority of attendees able to walk about, have a look at the guests etc in a generally relaxed mood, not overly stressed or worried about having to meet the guests or run around like at LFACC with Heroes and Patrick Stewart ..

I know there was the moment on Sunday morning where everyone had to deal with James Kyson Lee not being there for long, but I think he did well considering the short time he had. I only had to deal with a few 'where's James?' questions after he'd gone .. not too many at all - though luckily I was in charge of Matthew's queue, rather than James' so that was nice lol

Other than that, I'm pretty sure there wasn't any monumental disasters.
