I would hope that we could try for a special guest not to sign autographs but just to have him appear at the show and dinner and perhaps pose for photographs.

I beleive that he does do coropate events but i hear he is in the UK next March so you never know your luck do you ?????

Neil Armstrong doesn`t sign full stop but nevertheless the opportunity of a photo shoot would be priceless with the man who performed the 1st docking in orbit and became an astronaut flying the X-15 well before landing on the moon.

But it would be superb to meet him ?

I could be wrong here, someone who knows more about it that me might give you a better answer, but I think he used to sign things quite happily out of goodwill then found out people were selling things on, think the whole thing left him a bit disillusioned and what have you

It's not just that.... there have been many people making a fortune out of selling forged signatures of Neil Armstrong... plus there were a few collectors who pretty much stalked him and had hired kids to get signatures for them and even one who used a wheel-chair to gain sympathy and get items signed.

Its fair to say that Mr. Armstrong doesn't think a whole lot of collectors and I can honestly say I don't see him EVER doing a public signing again... I'd like to be proved wrong here though!!

That would be so cool if he did come and Jason could tell him if he did the auto session, and donate the money to charity would be a better idea. I`m hoping he will sign cos then I can take my kids to meet him.

CurlyKirsty, Read the above post... Don't get your hopes up. Neil Armstrong will NEVER sign autographs at ANY event... even at £500 per signature for charity... I believe he's already refused countless offers to that end.

Quoted from somewhere -

'Since 1994, he has refused any requests for autographs, after he found that his signed items were selling for large amounts of money and that many forgeries are in circulation. Often items reach prices of US$1,000 on auction sites like eBay. Signed photographs of the Apollo 11 crew can sell for $5,000. Any requests sent to him receive a form letter in reply saying that he has stopped signing. Although his no-autograph policy is well-known, author Andrew Smith watched people at the 2002 Reno Air Races still try to get signatures, even saying, "If you shove something close enough in front of his face, he'll sign." Along with autographs, he has stopped sending out congratulatory letters to new Eagle Scouts. The reason is that he thinks these letters should come from people who know the scout personally.'

There is NO chance of him attending the Autographica show ^_^

I to would love to meet the great man myself. Why not get him only to do the photo shoot and then sign these pictures only then the autograph is only worth the money to you. It is the same that I did with Buzz Aldrin, I got him to sign to me so it is worth nothing to any body else. It is a shame that true fans who would not sell on, that just want it for them selfs loose out.

I suspect that even a signed photo like that would still hold some value, especially if he is reluctant to sign normally. I still think there would be a lot of demand if he were to appear just to do a photo session and a talk. Suppose the only downside would be could the revenue be generated from those things to afford to get him over. That said it doesn't sound like money is really his prime motivator

I freely admit that I paid fractionally over £1,000 for an undedicated signed photo of Neil Armstrong. Most expensive in my collection to date but well worth every penny as an investment for the future and, perhaps more importantly, for my own personal satisfaction in completing the Apollo Xl set, having previously obtained both Mike Collins and Buzz Aldrin.

I too would love to meet this living legend but realise that it is likely never to happen......although, he has previously attended a US memorial event for James Doohan.

Well I would be equally ecstatic just to have a photo session with him as we did get one with Buzz. How does he stand on that issue as opposed to autos cos it seems like a double standard imo. Cos a photo with Neil would be worth a lot to me and my family. I suppose it would mean nothingto you tho.

I am just reading Moondust by Andrew Smith now, just got past that bit about the Reno dinner.

its not suprise his auto was going for so much - the guys a living legend! i imagine he has one of the most expensive autos (not including the deceased celebrities) going. im racking my brain to think who would be more sought after - the dhali lama??

I believe that Shakespeare is one of the most sought after (yes I know he's deceased!) and people will pay thousands for it.

There was a signed copy of the Hobbit i(which I believe would be worth a bit now)in our college library until somebody pointed it out (and it mysteriously disappeared!! - into the library managers house no doubt)

I'm thinking living celeb then probably the dhali lama or possibly Mandela??

I always thought Albert Einstein's auto was the most expensive...

Shame about N.A....

But how about other Apollo era astronauts?

I can't see mandela he did a book tour for his autobiography so he can't be that rare. does anyone actually know the top 5 most sought after?? i may ask one of the dealers this weekend out of my own curiosity.
