Having lurked round the area, I thought I should tell the tail of how I came to be here (no, not that story).
For a few years I have known a some people who were involved with Jason (SM) and told me of the fairs and events that he was involved with. As I Star Wars fan, I enjoy visiting these things as it gives me a chance to see (and buy!!) merchandise I had only read about.
At some of these events Jason kept asking if I wanted to help at a small little event in MK. I was not sure as I wanted to see what it was like before hand. I have seen some fairs which are a bit "geeky", and thats not really my thing. Anyway, one of my friends lives in MK and was helping out at C3. He invited me up for the weekend to crash at his place and see what the event was like.
I was totally taken aback by the scale of the event. It was huge, loads of people and lots of activity. Famous people, press, stalls, crew, it was great. I realised that I had to volunteer!
This I did, and on the Thursday before C4, I left my home in Basingstoke to travel to MK. Arriving in the hall I saw the preperations underway, but it was only when I got my crew shirt on Friday that I realised how good the event was. Saturday was even busier, with more people and more guests. Sunday was complety crazy with loads of people coming to see some residents of the Shire (!).
I never experianced anything like it. The teamwork, the good vibes, the hard work, the happy faces. It was a pure adrenaline rush the whole weekend. I went home just wanting to be back in the hall helping people.
Crew are worked very hard. If you are there to do little but gawp at the stars, you are there for the wrong reasons. But if you want to give all your effort and keep going when you are exhausted, help the team and try to be constantly happy and helpful for the public, it is amazing.
It was at C4 that I heard about the forum and wanting to continue the good vibes of the event, I registered. If there are any other crew out there who can remeber a guy with ginger hair and glasses who brewed lots of coffee, please get in touch!!
