lee_c00per
I know the original thread got deleted so i thought i may repost it. Are we going to have a meet up on the Thursday Night? I'm arriving in London early morning. Dropping my gear off at the Hotel and then going to Wesminster for the Star Wars Exibtion next to the London Eye. After that i planned to pop along to Forbidden Planet as they apparently are having an eclsuive star wars bust for sale that day, so i need to go there. After that i am free in the evening. If we are going to meet up then i guess we need to see how many people want to meet up and where the best place to do so will be. If we get enough people i guess we can take the idea further
dazzlerjames
I'm up for it - getting into London about 4pm ish depending on train reliability! and then checking into Hotel near by. Not bothered where we go TBH but as I presume that most of you will be staying near to the excel then I'll have to have a look at travel times etc. Although the way it's going I can see there being plenty of spare time over the weekend seeing as there seems to be nothing happening with the event itself!! mightymax
I will be getting into London about 12ish. I want to goto the Exhibition in the afternoon as well, as like Lee (if I remember right) we are both staying very near to Excel. Haven't thought of anything to do in the evening apart from have a walk around Excel and work out the entrances etc... because I have never been there before so just a bit of pre-planning. I don't suppose you have any idea of costs, what the bust will look like (insert your own joke there) or perhaps a link to it Lee. It is a shame they deleted our old stuff not sure if it was a case of breaking rules or it just got lost with the problems they previously had. I read an interesting comment on Rebel Scum which I will leave at that.
lee_c00per
I think the Forbidden Planet Clone Trooper bust will be around the £30-£35 mark but i'll find that out for you mate I got my train tickets today but becuase of traveling at Peak times i can't get my train from Ashford (70 minutes from London ) until 9.30 so i may not get there around 11 or so. I may go to Forbidden Plannet first then the Exibition as that is open later than FP. I too was thinking of looking around the Excel arena in the evening to get an idea on what to expect. I guess if we're all around the arena area then we may aswell meet up around there somewhere. It's seems a case of where to eat or something
gobo1979uk
Loads of hotels round excel so maybe pic the one with the biggest bar and meet up there?
lee_c00per
Sounds good to me. My hotel (Premier Inn ) has a bar and restauarant but isn't exactly giving away food and drink , although that may be the case everywhere in london

The ticket prices for my train is so random unless I book an actual time they are expensive. I pre-booked them a few weeks ago to book first class tickets for an actual time was cheaper than normal train tickets (guess it was some promotion) so I have ended up booking those. Will also save having kids jumping all over me stuff
lee_c00per
Not sure if i want to go to this major event now after just putting the autograph prices up on the official site. I'm disgusted

lee_c00per
This is what i mean. We are getting so badly ripped off here. I don't know whether i want to go if this is a sign of things to come Billy Dee i can be pushed to pay £25 (he was £20 at C6) Matt Sloan at £15 is OK as he is a very rare signer The £10 guests i am happy with but it's the rest of them. Remember that if you want your auto on a photo you have to pay for that on top and we don't even know if they are official ones
Moderators DavidB Posted June 4, 2007 Moderators Share Posted June 4, 2007 OK sorry to come in here, but would you mind editing all specific stuff relating to that event please? I'm still not sure why stuff was removed before, but it seems to be too much to have just 'disappeared' so can we just be safe by not discussing it here? Thanks guys
mightymax
On another note just looked at those busts on Forbidden Planet, I have seen the Luke and Solo one on Ebay which was about the same asking price. The Yodo and Trooper ones are cool!! Edited June 4, 2007 by mightymax

Moderators DavidB Posted June 4, 2007 Moderators Share Posted June 4, 2007 (edited) Not told - asked nicely I've still not found out what happened to the other stuff, but like I said it's too much to have just disappeared by accident. I don't want the topic to be deleted as meetups are fine to discuss, so just try and keep it vague and not go into specifics about the other event like prices, venues, guests etc. I know there are other boards u can do that on anyway. lee_c00per
I'm joking fair do's. The posts were 'deleted' but that's a different discussion altogether. I need someone to go halfs on my hotel room badly now to ease my costs after todays 'pricing' news

dazzlerjames
Where are people getting their info about guests and prices from?? I've seen some guests listed on starwars.com but none are really shouting at me to go get em - maybe Shannon McRandle as I don't think she's done UK before? I can't find prices though. cheers, Darren ps - I'm happy to come over to excel area on the Thursday night - maybe we could do some sort of group reccy on the venue itself. lee_c00per
their not on starwars.com their on the other official site for the event, under guests I think i may scrap CE and just to go C12 and LFCC instead, and get people to sign my Heroes poster. I love star wars don't get me wrong but recently they seem to think people will pay whatever they want for an autograph. It's unfair and for someone like me at 19 on not a HUGE income it will turn into a hobbie that will spiral out of control. dazzlerjames
I must be having problems then as the only ones i can find on the other site are the 5 that were there origianally. If I were you I wouldn't scrap it altogether remember that the autograph part is a very small part of the whole celebration experience. I believe there will be plenty more going on, even if you jsut go for the day then it's probably worth it. I suppose we are used to paying £15 for an auto nowadays but I do think that maybe the reason that Prowse, Park and Bulloch are charging so much is that they had to renogociate their contracts so maybe the appearance fee wasn't as good! Fortunately I've met these 3 already (The first time I met Prowse and Bulloch they were £5 each!!). I agree with you though - even at 33 it's an expensive hobby, I don't even want to think about how much Collectormania 6 cost me especially as I had to start my collection again as they all got stolen first time around. Personally I'd be more interested in some good photoshoots with the guests. Darren
lee_c00per
I've cancelled my hotel. I'm getting a refund on train tickets (minus admin fees) so i need to seel my tickets now for the show. It's a real shame as i have been excited about this since showmasters announced it last september but they really don't seem that bothered about it. The organisres say it was up to the guests to make their own prices which may be right but it's Derek Malki who is pushing them to charge more so he get's more money
dazzlerjames
See if you can get a refund from the organisers or try ebay (I've seen 3 day passes on there). I too have been excited about this for a while but am disappointed at the current guest list. Maybe we'll get more with a few weeks to go. I think the star wars buzz has started to wear out abit - CIV wasn't as well attended as expected by all accounts. It's a shame as this event could have been so good (and still can be) but we need rarer guests and not to be ripped off by everybody involved! Even some of the hotels have put their prices up because of it. Still waiting for them to announce Ian McDiarmid! I saw on another forum a good point that there are very few main characters where are R2D2, Threepio, Chewie etc. What about Gary Kurtz and Irvin Kershner or even RickMcCallum not some special effects assistant or costume designer - they feel like padding to me!! I'll still go as I've already paid out (train, hotel, fan club, admission etc) and booked the time off work but not sure that I needed all 3 days now - especially as there's only currently about 4 guests who I've not already met. lee_c00per
CE passes are not refundable, so i need to sell them via a forum or ebay
mightymax
It is a shame that you have decided not to go now, it is getting an expensive hobby which if getting out of control due to peoples greed. After the inital gulp at prices when you look at them really they aren't that far from normal costs and the usual suspects I presume most of us don't need for our collections. I just hope you don't regret not going cause you know whats sods law is like!
