The Dementors were stood at the bars of his cell again.

The skinny man curled himself up tighter, wrapping the ragged cloak around his body, his back facing the cell bars as the cold began to increase. He whimpered as it seeped through his body, starting at his back and slowly spreading through his limbs. He moaned loudly as the rattling breath dragged itself in and out of the Dementor’s mouth; he could see the monster’s shapeless face flashing before his eyes. Letting a sob leak from his mouth, images and sounds started flashing through his mind, bringing back memories he’d long forgotten…

“Draco, this is a test. I will let you out when you have shown bravery and determination.” His father looked down at him with a small glint in his eye, his mother beside him.

“But, why, father?”

“To show determination, Draco.” His father looked down at him sternly before taking a step back from the wardrobe, pulling his mother away and slamming the wardrobe door shut.

Thrown into impenetrable darkness, he curled himself up at the foot of the wardrobe, feeling the bottom of one of his father’s cloaks tickling his ears, sending shivers down his spine. His breath started to quicken as time passed, the darkness pressing in on him on all sides.

“Father, please let me out!”

“Not until you’ve shown me determination, Draco!”

“Lucius, are you sure?” He looked up hopefully at the sound of his mother’s voice, protesting for him. “He’s only a child!”

“Six years is old enough to put him through the test.”

“But, Lucius-”

“Quiet, Narcissa!”

His mother’s voice disappeared and the small flutter of hope inside him evaporated as he looked back at the darkness around him.

He steadied his breathing and willed it to fill the silence around him, focusing on his faltering breaths. But the wardrobe suddenly shook and he gasped.

It had started.

A pair of rough and inhumane hands grabbed his shoulders and threw him against the wall of the wardrobe.

“FATHER, PLEASE!”

But there was no answer as more mutilated hands grabbed him and attacked him, savagely. He was thrown from one side of the wardrobe to the other and a hand placed itself on his face, blinding him even more.

He screamed and tried to fight against them but it was no use; he couldn’t see what he was fighting. Trembling uncontrollably, he pleaded, begged his father to let him out, but the door remained locked shut…

The young man sobbed uncontrollably on the cell floor, his once slick blonde hair greasy and un-kept as he felt the Dementor drifting away.

Maybe Draco Malfoy shouldn’t have killed Harry Potter after all…
