When Molly Met Petunia

Disclaimer: Harry Potter is the property of J.K. Rowling and I'm making no money from this story.

Molly Weasley knew she shouldn’t have gone to visit Petunia Dursley, but the fact was that she needed something from the woman. So she dressed in the closest thing she had to Muggle clothing, a dress bright with patchwork, and apparated to Privet Drive.

Petunia seemed flustered as she opened the door, and she glared at Molly.

‘Hello,’ said Molly. ‘My name is Molly Weasley and I…’

‘Weasley,’ said Petunia. ‘You’re from the family that Harry stays with sometimes.’

‘That’s right,’ said Molly, ‘and it’s about Harry that I’ve come now…’

‘Has something happened to him?’ Petunia asked.

‘No, no, nothing like that! It’s just that, well… may I come in for a moment?’

With a shrug, Petunia moved aside to let Molly in, and indicated the door to the sitting room. Molly went in and sat down. Petunia sat opposite, perching on the edge of the seat and clasping her hands nervously.

‘You see, Harry is rather important to me,’ Molly began. ‘I’m sure you already know that he’s a kind and clever boy, and he’s been ever so good to my son Ron, and besides that he saved my daughter’s life once. So you see, I’m rather inclined to see him as part of the family.’

‘I see,’ Petunia said, stiffly.

‘You don’t mind, do you? I don’t mean to imply that you are any less his family because of it…’

‘Mind? Not at all. Please just get on with it, I’m having a very busy day.’

‘Well, you see, I’m making up a photograph album of my family, and I was wondering if you had any photographs of Harry that I could have. I’d like to see what he was like growing up.’

‘Photographs? Of Harry?’

‘That’s right.’

Petunia frowned. ‘We never took any photographs of Harry.’

‘Not even one?’

‘I… I don’t remember any. Maybe he was in the background sometimes when we took photos of Dudley…’

‘He’s the son of your sister, he lived with you for ten years, and you don’t have a photograph of him? He’s your own flesh and blood! How could you not have taken even one? Not even one?’

Petunia shrugged. Molly looked close to tears.

‘Thank you for your time,’ she said, flatly, before showing herself out. Petunia watched her go, still frowning.

Arthur never knew why Molly wanted the Time Turner, but he managed to get one for her anyway, through his connections at the Ministry. She was allowed to keep it for one day. She used it several times before she returned it to Arthur that afternoon to give safely back to his contact.

And her photograph album had a page for Harry after all.
