Hopefully someone in the know about this type of thing can give me some advice.

A friend and I both have a couple of genuine screen used props and costumes each that we would like to have on display.

What is the best way of going about this?  Obviously they need to be in a box type frame but is there a specific company that makes these or do people get them as a custom job through a normal framers?  I don't want the costume mounted on a mannequin, hence I assume the only other option is a box frame.

What about inside?  Presumably they need to have some sort of foam backing (with a nice material over the top (Black velvet?) to make it presentable) so that the items can be affixed with pins.

What has everyone else who owns stuff like this done with them?

Any help greatfully received.

This is just a thought, but have you considered contacting local museums?  They usually have clothes on display and they might well be able to point yiu in the right direction.

I think the museum idea is a good way to go....it definately will require professional help.I just know there are issues like not showing it in direct sunlight as that will eventually fade the colours of the material over time, and make sure the frame is acid free too....After all it's worth taking the extra time/expense to get it done properly if the props/ costumes are worth something....

I'm lucky, in that a good friend of mine is a framer, he's framed some really great pieces for me before, anything up to an 8" deep box frame.

It's worth speaking to local framers, see what you can come up with...
