Sherlocked US

Did anyone get an email with this or anything? I just saw that tweet and came here for info, but there's nothing.

And I really wish Showmasters would announce the date and city BEFORE the ticket sale date. I'd like to check feasibility of travel before the rush to buy tickets :grump:

With Britain it's a pretty good shot that with one location it'll be London. With the US it isn't so obvious.

Likewise, this is probably the one event I'd go over for depending on who is announced and it'd be good to know the dates so I can see if I could book the time off.

I didn't get an email, so no idea where the info came from unless it's been mentioned at SDCC.

Well I've emailed as well, I hope that one way or another we hear soon. I've just had a quick look a the website and at the very bottom left there's a log in option but no way to 'join' as it were so for now I assume it's an admin thing maybe?

Well the time of the announcement has been released but I can't work out what time it will be for the UK. It says 9pm EDT and 6pm PDT but we are 5 hours ahead of EDT and 8 for PDT which gives different times from the UK's perspective?

 Right, the powers of Google have helped me work out that it's 2am our time. Think I'll just check when I get up, I wasn't going to be booking it straight away if I decide to go anyway! Got to work out the costs involved first which I don't want to do at 2am!

When I need to buy tickets in the UK for theatre they always go on sale at 2am my time. It isn't a great time to be trying to make financial decisions.

Anyone have any thoughts on the whole 'more traditional convention' wording? It sounds like it's going to be a lot smaller than Sherlocked UK.

The current UK ones have actually been a mix of a signing event and a convention in the way that they are run with the mixed ticket types so I think it just means that the US one will be back to a standard convention format - probably that there will only be the package tickets available, and maybe only a couple of types at that and not general entry - I'd guess you may not be able to buy extras on top either, it;s what you get included and that's it.

Yes, the limited tickets make it sound like it will be smaller. They will probably use it as a kind of tester to see how it does. It's not going to be cheap shipping out the sets!

The time zone thing sucks for everyone doesn't it!

My first thoughts on learning it would be more traditional were "OH THANK YOU GOD!!!" and "it's all my Christmases come at once!" and if I was a more energetic person I would have 'Happy Danced' all around the house. Hell I'd still probably be dancing. :)

As much as I enjoyed last year's SHERLOCKED UK (and will enjoy the one coming up), there were about a gagillion too many people there for my tastes. I very much prefer the smaller 'hotel style' conventions like the HUBS that SM/ME did for Torchwood. Hopefully it will mean less massive queues and being able to sleep in the same building as the event. I *love* being able to run up to my room at the drop of a hat, something that's hard to do with the usual set-up for mega conventions like SHERLOCKED.

The big drawback is gonna be whether or not the website crashes when it goes live because I'm sure that there will be a lot of folks like me who will be waiting to pounce when the tickets go on sale tommorow. :) I've got all sorts of alarms set so I can be ready and waiting!

Unfortunately to get the big guests you need a lot of people to pay for them, I doubt they are cheap, so less people attending means less guests and whilst it's not impossible, less likelihood of them being Ben or Martin.

But when you get too many guests, attendees end up not having time to enjoy the event. Instead they end up in some practically endless line or have to miss something because too many things get scheduled at once.

Right now for the U.K. (placing no 'value' whatsoever on who they are) there are 9 actors & 2 (or 3 if you count Mark twice😄) from the production side. With that many there is likely to be quite a bit of waiting in line and having to juggle the schedule to see the talks as it is w/o the "more guests to be confirmed". I realize that there are a great many people who couldn't care less if anybody other Ben and Martin show up and will feel perfectly justified in clamorouring for their money back if they aren't there but the con is supposed to be something to celebrate *THE SHOW* and a chance to meet up w/ friends old & new and not just to celebrate Ben & Martin. Yeah I'm a Grumpy Old Fan but continues to amaze me that so many fans these days don't look beyond the 'main leads' in a show (in this case B & M) and seem to forget the rest of the cast, both regular and guest, and the production crew. Without the rest of the cast and the behind the scenes people the show would be a whole lot less interesting. Besides sometimes it's those other actors and the production people that can end up being the most fun to meet because they're less rushed than the leads. I'll be *completely escatic* if Ben and/or Martin can make it but it won't ruin my day if they don't because the rest of the line-up is pretty cool already. I'm gonna trust that the organizers will do the same for the US event. Yes either Ben or Martin will need to headline the guests to keep people from rioting but attendees need to remember that most (if not all) of the actors are based in the UK and not the US so it takes more effort/money to get them to a US event. When there are UK events of US shows the same thing applys.

Anyways this is just a long-winded way to say I'd rather have fewer guests and have to pay a little more so I can get all the photos, autos *and* talks w/o wearing my nerves to a frazzle or standing around so much that I end up being in huge amounts of pain. I'm so incredibly lucky that I can afford the sometimes outrageous prices some cons charge these days (and that's before hotel & travel costs!) but a lot of that's because I'm very selective about the ones I go to and I budget & save for them all year long and not just the last few months before the event.

My points exactly. For a US event I'd think the guests would need to be there for the weekend which makes the headliners a lot more expensive. It's a lot easier for the London based events if the main cast just want to do a day as they can pop in for a few hours and go without too much hassle as they live in the area. Having said that I know Ben has done events in Australia before so it's not impossible!

I personally want B &M there as I haven't had a chance to meet Martin yet and have other things I'd love to get Ben to sign. However I do love the current line up and am thrilled that we have had and are going to have again some of the behind the scenes people as I agree with you, it's a rare opportunity to get to meet them and say you admire what they have done on the show.

I must have missed some info being announced. Where has it been said that this will be a more 'conventional' convention and that there will be limited tickets? Not that I can in any way afford to go and even if I could afford it I still need to get me a teleportation device as there is no way you'd get me on a plane for the length of time it takes to get to the US.

It was an email EF. I'll copy and paste it. It came from the normal Sherlock email account and I got it just before 9.10 last night.

Sherlocked USA will be a more traditional convention that will still bring you some extras that only an OFFICIAL event can. Tickets will be strictly limited, once they are gone they are gone.

There will be actual screen used sets, props and costumes on display for the first time outside of the UK as well as some much loved stars from the show, behind the scenes creatives and much more!

Look forward to a weekend where you can truly celebrate Sherlock for the first time in the USA
