Comic Con Bloopers

A wee idea that's been floating about my head for a while now. Just about everyone has a story about meeting a guest that may not have gone to plan...be it a photo, auto experience or just bumping into them randomly *cough* Madsen Mikkelsen when drunk at the hotel lifts *cough*.

After the con last year in the pub our wee group had many laughs sharing photos and stories, for example knocking something over on the desk and looking down just as the photo was taken resulting in a photograph where they lovingly gazed into the guests eyes...

I have had many mishaps but this year when it came to meeting Kim Coates I was a human disaster. Clearly in awe of his beautiful aura I was unable to control my face and this photo happened...

And then this...I look like a flabby blob so the rest of the body was cropped out but I appear to be stroking his neck??? Why????

So does anyone have any funny stories they would be willing to share? Give us all a bit of a giggle? :) cause if you can't laugh at yourself let us laugh for you!!

Probably not funny or anything, but a bit of a blooper at LFCC 16. Met Michael Emerson on the Friday, he had just came back to his desk from a break, sat down, and I said "How are you?" unintentionally in my thickest NI accent, speaking very quickly as I do sometimes.

Don't think he understood me as he just replies "No!" in fear with a frightened look on his face. Felt a bit embarrassed, but didn't want to say anything!

Laminate yourself some 'conversational phrase cards' and if it happens again you can provide your own subtitles.

My friend will more than likely kill me for this, but last year I took her to her very first Comic Con at LFCC 2016. The first celebrity we went to see was Keith David. My friend got really excited and we had a quick chat with him about some of his movies. I told him how much I enjoyed him in The Princess and the Frog whereas my friend told him how much she liked him in Predator.

My friend, bless didn't realise that Keith was not in that movie and she was thinking of Carl Weathers (who we saw next). She didn't believe me until later that night when Predator was on TV.

She felt so embarrassed but I told her not to worry as other people have made mistakes like this with other celebrities. Regardless, Keith was such a cool guy.

It's not a blooper per-say, but my first LFCC was back in 2013 at the winter LFCC con and I went to get my photo with Steve Cardenas in his blue zeo suit and because I have a disability which includes arthritis, I nearly dropped poor Steve's Zeo helmet on the floor, I kept apologising and was so embarrassed that nearly happened.

Not really funny, but there.

Well my infamous Mads Mikkelsen autograph when I went there and asked for pic, he was like oh, yeah sure. And then I thanked him and proceeded to leave and when I was at the end of the queue I've heard Mads's voice "Aleksandra! Aleksandra! You forgot your autograph!" :D Done walk of shame, took the pic and ran away.

Then I saw Jeremy Renner walking alone and I shouted "HI JEREMY!" raising my hand lol he smiled and said hi back and even asked how I was so good!

And my first encounter with Kim Coates when I asked if we can take a pic and he said sure and I said "Can you take it as my hands are shaking too much?" :D

Does it count as a Comic Con Blooper if it happened at Collectormania? Still SM...

This is mainly down to me being a nervous wreck. Ordinarily I don't get too starstruck around guests but in this case, I was meeting Costas Mandylor. I was mentally preparing myself the entire time I was walking through the stadium looking for his table, then totally lost my mind once I found him. He didn't really have a queue but he was talking to the crew member next to him so I hung back a bit before approaching because I needed that time to get my brain to function so I didn't end up sounding like a besotted moron. As soon as I felt prepared, I took a few steps towards his table. Costas looked up at me and said, "whoa, hey there baby," and there went my brain again. Mental preparation out the window entirely. To this day I have no idea why I then said this but I told him his accent sounded different in person. He's Australian. Which I knew. He looked vaguely confused for a moment but he was a good sport about it, bless him.

The real cringe moment came during the photoshoot. Since I had two props with me for my cosplay, a gun and a sword, I figured it would be fun if he held one of them for our photo. So instead of telling him this in no uncertain terms like a normal person, it got to my turn and I just walked up to him and went "choose your weapon, darling". Why. Why this. I never call people darling and yet I walked right up to Costas Mandylor and said it right to his face.

It was fine, though. He went for the sword and the photo was awesome.

Also, not entirely embarrassing, but definitely a face-palm moment of regret; after we had a couple of selfies at his table, I decided to be really bold and ask him if it was okay to get a quick hug from him. I never ask guests this because it would be really awkward if they said no and I'd feel bad, and I guess it must probably be pretty weird to have strangers ask for hugs all day, but in this moment I was very overwhelmed because I adore this man so much and he'd been so sweet despite my awkwardness. So I just remember blurting out "can I have a hug?" and he obliged, but I got so overwhelmed I blocked it out. My memory of this event is limited to Costas being next to me with his arm around me, about to step away once the pictures were taken, me asking the question, and then it cuts straight to Costas pulling away again and going back to the table.

I got a hug from my favourite actor from my favourite movie franchise and my brain couldn't handle it so I don't remember the hug itself. :( Why, brain?

Following on from Tanith's post, this year I may have made a fool of myself with Vic Armstrong.

I spotted his desk early on Sunday and was standing around as he was sorting stuff out; and he was looking at me and I was watching him, for what felt like ages, then he's asking if I wanted to get an autograph and I decided to wait till he was ready, just in the presence of an actual legend, anyway he starts questioning me on the film pictures he had on his desk.

I'm there a 36 year old guy, naming films and giddy like a toddler.

Well mine is not a comic con, but I did meet Jared Leto. And I had a massive obsessive crush on his brother. So I am there in the park, hanging there, got a pic with Jared and he asked me a question and at the same time I heard his brother's voice. So I just said "sorry, your brother is here" and ran away. Then his brother asked me about my name and because I keep using Rory so I hesitated with the answer so he was like "Are you sure? Because you don't seem to be sure". And then few months later having a pic with him and Jared, he pulled me so close and so fast I literally fell into his arms. Fun times.

That could become a staple of LFCC. Might even become a trend for the photoshoots! lol

The Emerson is a particularly docile creature. One must always be cautious approaching so as to avoid startling the poor thing.

And I even owned up when Jack Gleeson asked if it was my mistake or his

Christ I'm an amazing guy

Despite my many years of attending events and LFCCs (since the second ever one) I have only goofed a couple of times. Both in photoshoots. Both involved accidental connection of body parts that shouldn't be connecting. Out of respect of both guests I won't mention names (both are gorgeous and really lovely though).

I was so mortified after both sessions as there isn't really anyway to apologize or know if they were aware. I'm now a bit more careful.

... did these occasions end in restraining orders? lol

Had a few bloopers at some events:

Spring LFCC where I smudged my name on the photo of Greg Grunberg's autograph, but he was nice enough to sign another photo at no extra charge.

Forgetting to collect an autograph a couple of times.

Nearly forgetting to pay a guest for his autograph at another event.

Asking the wrong dealer about the price of an item, and another occasion to get permission to photograph their items.

Asking a guest for a photo, unaware there was a No Posed Photos sign at the queue entrance. Fortunately, that guest was willing to pretend to sign the autograph while a photo was taken.

Took my friend to her first con, and we went to meet a guest she was a huge fan of (I literally have no idea who).

Anyway, while he was signing her autograph, he said "I really love your skirt!"

And she jokingly replied "Thanks, I bought it myself."

Unfortunately, he misheard and said "Wow, you made it!? Really!?"

She was just like "......no?"

They then just stared at each other in increasingly awkward silence for the best part of a minute.

I wish I could have swooped in and rescued the conversation, but by this point I was pretty much collapsed on the floor with laughter.

Ok, i think ive finally found what is definitely my best blooper... LFCC 2015 i spent all saturday and most of sunday confused that i couldnt find most of the comic guests, everyone i asked said they were the floor below but everytime i took the stairs i just ended up at the entrance...

Wasnt until sunday afternoon i realised i had completely missed those infamous white rail stairs in the middle of the convention floor that lead down... Had been walking round the edge of it for near on 2 days without at any point spotting it!

I got one better. I did know where the comic guests were, but I didn't bother to ckeck who was there. So I found out that one of the guests was Gail Simone, whose work I love so much that I'd have bought any of her books on the spot just to have it signed... two weeks after the event. Doh!!
