Autographs at Theatre

Sorry to start a diffrent thread to the 'Autographs at Premieres' one but since this is slightly diffrent, I thought it might be a good idea. I would like to get Cillian Murphy's auto either before or after a showing of his play Love Song and am clueless how to go about it. Any tips would be much appreciated.

For instance, is it more likely that a star will sign before or after the play? If they sign before, what is a good time to arrive before the play start time? Also, do you wait for stars to arrive at the main or back stage door?

Thanks in advance. :D

When I go to a theatre I usually wait at a stage door, after the performance. Sometimes the actors slip out through a side door though. Get there in time, sometimes the crowd is manic. *thinks of Alyson Hannigan's play*

Some stars may sign before the play, but it's pretty hard to catch them as there's no set timeframe when they have to arrive. Some come in 2 hours before the play starts, others 30 minutes.

When i got tim curry, ( spamalot ) :YAHOO: I got it after the show but had to be quick as some actors will leave really quickly so you have to go to the stage door as soon as you can ! It also helps if you take flowers to the stage door before the show with a note. ( thats what i always do but im a creep  )

I find the best plan is to go with what Queen Sindel suggested. Wait at the stage door and sometimes it is better to go a night you're NOT seeing the performance, this allows you to get at the front B) I've also found that some actors are more likely to sign a program or a flyer related to the show they're performing in but others seem to sign anything!! perhaps if you want your own item signed it is a good idea to get a flyer or program signed too, this way the actor thinks you care about the work they are currently involved with and not simply auto hunting :D

be warned that "bigger" / some stars don't pose for photos but others, such as John Barrowman (in my experience), happilly do! oh and another tip, don't go after a matinee (sp?) as often the actor has a limited break before needing to be back for the evening performance B)

oooow and take a sharpie!! thankfully I did when we went to meet JB because he was trying to sign with biros and it wasn't working so was asking if anyone had a sharpie hehe it was soo funny! and if you can, take summat hard for the actor to press on, like a clipboard! we didn't but then we were seeing the show first and just hoping to see JB rather than going specifically to get an auto, it was good fun

hope some of this helps!

surfy sah xx

If your planning on getting an auto at a theatre the best thing is like others have said to go on a night your not seeing the show and go after an evening performance as with only an hour or so between the end of the first show and the call for the second show, most cast members won't have the time to stop and sign.

With a play like love song, I doubt that the cast will be there hours before the show, but if you don't mind waiting, and want to try to catch who you want to meet before the show, i'd get there about 2 hours before the show starts.

Most performers dont mind saying hi before a show as long as they are not running late or have alot of things to do before the show. If the person you want to meet is obviously tryin to get in or doesnt stop, dont be offended tho because more often than not the performer is just trying to get into work to prepare for the show ahead of them.

Also like others have said, take something for the persong to lean on while signing and a pen that will work, weather it be a sharpie or a marker, something that is easy to write with and doesnt look bad.

And Don't expect a photo either, some people just dont like their photos taken, and others just have time to sign as they want to go home or get into the theatre. As a performer leaves the theatre they are on their own time, its never an obligation for them to sign or stop at stage door. So if you do encounter a performer who cant stop and sign please dont hold it against them

And thats my randomly long post, sorry if ive repeated stuff from before.

Oh and Evil_Faith, he will go in through the stage door, which is on the alleyway in between the theatre where love song is and where the mousetrap is, and it is marked Stage Door.

I've started doing this often, and these are definitely good tips for after the show. I would also add that it will not be as busy the earlier in the run you go. Final night is often the busiest, and opening preview the cast normally goes to celebrate, same with press-night so best not try then.

If you want to try catch the actors before the show then, it will not be as busy as after the show is. On average they will arrive about 2 hours before the show starts, but this does vary massively. The stage door is probably the door they are most likely to use, they will however sometime use any of the other theatre doors.

Good luck!
