Sitting at the counter on the red leather stool, I listen to the coffee machine gurgling as the waitress pours a mug of house special. It's for the truck driver who has just walked through the door. He looks as if he needs more than a cup of coffee. He sits three stools down from me and starts looking at the menu with a weary face that has aged long before it's time.

I have never met this man but I knew he'd be here today, just like I knew the couple sitting in the booth by the window would be here too.

The couple are young and obviously in love with each other. He looks into her eyes with total adoration as he gently places a stray lock of hair back behind her ear. She blushes gently and as it spreads across her cheeks the scent of her blood reaches my nostrils. I see their hands link across the formica table and their whispered conversation flows gently into my ears.

In the corner stands an old jukebox, its neon lights of green and pink flashing in time with the latest record that's playing. The diner is a typical fifties recreation and I have known its decor and its location for a long time, but I have never been here before today. I am thankful that it's cloudy outside but I shouldn't be surprised as I could not be here if the sun was shining brightly.

Bright and clear, just like the vision. The vision that has always been so definite, unlike others I've had. I have always known that I would be here today and that I would meet Him for the first time. My sweet, tortured, soulmate. My deepest love and my Eternal existence.

It will be here that we find each other at last. We have each followed different paths to reach this moment and neither has been easy. I have finally found a place, a family. I will go there with Him. They don't know we are coming but it is where we are meant to be.

I check my watch, half past three. Not long now, and yet it has been so long. The waitress looks over and sees the cold cup of coffee by my hand. 'Waiting for someone, Honey? Would you like a fresh one?'

'No thanks, He'll be here soon'.

Oh yes, the waiting will soon be over. All the years of knowing this will happen but unable to hurry time to this point. Soon, the man I have loved for so long but who knows nothing of me will arrive and I will need to be gentle, oh so gentle.

I know it will be fine, I've seen that too, but I also know that it will take time. We have a long journey to make and it will not be easy for either of us, but we will make it - we were always meant to be together.
