Food...

Recommended Posts

Nope, I'm not asking if there is food at the venue, as I've had a look, and there seems to be lots of places. What I was wondering was, how does everyone else deal with eating at a con of this size? I've only ever been to smaller ones, where it was probably much easier to grab something during the day between guests. As we'll be traveling down for maybe three hours, then at the venue until closing, we'll need to eat.

So, what does everyone do? Rely on the places at the venue, or are you more inclined to pack some food in your bag for quick snacking when you get the chance in between signings/photo ops etc?

I don't want to have a bag full of nosh and stuff to sign, and camera and so on, but I also want to be prepared the best way to maximize my "funtime"!

Dawn :D

Personally I try to pick up a sandwich etc. before the event (or in a quiet moment after getting VQ tickets) and stash them in my bag waiting for when I'm able to eat between photoshoots etc. :) I can't really afford the food in the venue.

I used to live on adrenaline, water and Smints. :P

Although since photoshoot schedules were extended to the end of the day instead of 3pm-odd, I started including a toothbrush and toothpaste in my emergency pack and can actually eat sometime during the day! Just a little sammich, perhaps... if you don't want to buy at the venue, there's a Tesco Express nearby.

There are several different places at the venue, Bob. But it depends what area the show is held in. If I say, have a photo op in one area, I'm not risking leaving to go to another for food.

If we get time, we were thinking of stopping for breakfast on the way down to eek us out most of the day. But this will depend on traffic. If we get a lot of roadworks etc on the motorway, then we won't want to risk being late by eating! I think a few goodies might be in order. I think I need to go shopping for a bigger bag....

Get yourself a Blue shirt with Showmasters on it, When you see the crew walking around the venue with the snack bag, put on your Blue shirt, Hover behind them, when they start dishing out the snacks, just grab a few items.... :whistling: Works every time.

You've got is sorted, you can just regurgitate yesterdays lunch and chew that again.

What sort of food do they do at the venue?

I know one of the halls has a Pizza Express in it but whether we will be in there and if it will be open who knows. I imagine it would be open though as it not like it's a small event.

If I´m hungry I probably go to a supermarket next to the venue or to a small grocery shop. And there are certainly some Burgerjoints or sandwich shops nearby. I never buy food inside a venue A ) to expensive and B ) most of the time disgusting

(hi, i used to be called dreamsphere3, i think, can't remember, which is why i had to get another account, good to be back!)

I am staying at a premier inn near the Olympia. They have all you can eat breakfast for about 8 pound which is pretty well priced. Since i don't need to eat much to feel full i am happy about this as i will have a good breakfast before the convention and usually as happened in the past not need to eat anything until about four. anyways, what i am trying to say is, if you can, have a really good big breakfast and if you think its needed a sandwich and some fruit on the way to the convention. I would not recommend junk food as suger crashes are not a good idea at these sort of big events, because the headaches and sudden lack of energy they cause.

If you take your own food will there be somewhere where you can sit and eat it?

I remember last time i was at the Olympia last time LFCC had it there they have a balcony over looking the hall. i used to sit on the ground up there and eat my sandwich or just read books i got and had a good rest. it's also a lovely place to people watch as you have a pretty cool view of all the many many people below you.

Cheers Dreamsphere, sounds like a good place to aim for if the area is available to use.

Is it possible to go outside without going outside?☺

How do you mean? all i know about going outside is they stamp the back of your hand so you can get back in.

Just me being extremely lazy, I was wondering if there was an outside area with out actually having to go back out pass security and having your hand stamped.

I myself usually just go into the reception like area infront of the doors because if i go outside and its very sunny i tend to get a tad bit hot and dizzy, so i rarely actually go outside into the open air, just outside of the doors to breath and take a break from the crowds.

Pretty much my plan too. im staying at a hotel that includes a cooked buffet breakfast with my booking so ill try get a good breakfast just before i leave in the morning then hopefully wont need to grab anything until later in the day or ill have a small snack later in the day with plenty of water then that will keep me going until the shows over, i usually then tend to grab some food on the way back to my hotel and eat that as i wind down from the busy day
