timelord81r
Ive got a ps3 and have bought a few blurays over the last year or so, my criteria for buying bluray discs at the mo are if it has substantial additional extras compared to the dvd i already have I dont already have it on dvd and it bests the dvd release in both features and value for money one film im thinking about buying is braveheart, im trying to figure out if the recent braveheart bluray has the extra "mel gibsons braveheart, a film makers passion" on it? that was on the dvd. Ive looked at all the reviews I can find online, does anyone own it and can help? ive yet to buy a hd tv but even on sd can see and hear a difference, but the big thing for me is the extra features, love the pip tracks. and i love the triple play editions, all releases should be like this!!! what are you reconditions? at the moment I have band of brothers (superb sound and PIP track) The Pacific fringe series 1 (cheaper than its dvd counter part) payback (loads of extras and didnt have it on dvd) serenity (additional extras) frost nixon sherlock holmes startrek xfiles - i want to believe wolverine valkyrie first knight (loads of extras not on the dvd) celine - through the eyes of the world and ive just ordered salt got a few on my to buy list like terminator salvation, A team, robinhood, forrest gump, star trek TOS, and a few other new releases. adriangill
Unfortunately my main reason for purchasing Blu-ray differs from yours. For me it's the increase in picture quality. I have 'replaced' a few things that I have on DVD with Blu-ray for that reason alone (Trek TOS, Terminator 2, Die Hard, Bourne Trilogy, Superman, Firefly). Any new 'extras' are just a bonus and not a requirement for me. As for new things that I didn't already own on DVD then usually I will purchase the Blu-ray version instead of the DVD. timelord81r
is firefly out on bluray in the uk? or do you mean serenity, yer i bought serenity, was my fist I think on bluray. i appreciate the better picture quality and sound but its not a main factor in buying at the mo, especially as I dont have a HD tv yet
TerraHawk
There aren't really many I can be bothered to fork out for again, but its mainly extras that would tempt me. I've realised films like Back To The Future I've always treated as TV (I watch them on TV) so never really watched the DVDs. So would be silly to buy them again at present. I've bought the Alien set for the 3rd time in 10 years though!

It plays in regions A and B. I haven't gotten around to getting Serenity on Blu-ray yet. Maybe Santa will be nice and leave me a copy. No picture quality benefit then unless the Blu-ray version has been remastered and the DVD hasn't. Edited December 18, 2010 by 1of2

One extra commentary: 'Our Mrs Reynolds' with Whedon, Fillion, Tudyk, Glass One extra featurette: Firefly reunion - Lunch with Joss, Nathan, Alan, Ron

adriangill
I wonder if they will ever convert Terminator, Predator, Alien, etc to 3D. That I would like to see. As Star Wars will be converted I assume it would be possible.

As Star Wars will be converted I assume it would be possible. Doubt it. Terminator and Alien would especially not really benefit from 3D seeing as most of the movie is spent in the dark. And Predator is set ina claustophobic jungle so the only thing in 3d that would stand out is trees etc. Star Wars at least has speceships and laser blats etc flying around. JacknDaniel
Nicky, one I would definitely recommend to you is The Thing. The Bluray is far superior in picture quality to the old DVD I had. I didn't mind buying that one again

zebredy
Not sure if someone already mentioned this sorry if they have, but did you know that some of the movies that have come out on BR in the UK are have less extras on them then the US version of the same movie. Take The Incredibles for example. I was lucky to get a copy of the US version second hand of someone as after finding out it had more extras then the UK version I knew I had to have it. Its a shame really as there is no real reason why we should not get most of these extras on our BRs as well, granted there are a lot of movies where we get the same extras or maybe even better PQ but why do some movies fall through the net? I think its to do with distribution. Eg. The Island is distributed by Warners in the UK but by Paramount in the US. Not only does the US version have extras but the A/V is better. As a result I've stuck with my dvd version. Shame as I like the movie alot.

JasonVoorhees
been collecting Blu-rays for just over a year now and simply went Mental probably have over 200 which is just rediculous and would have to say that 43% if not more are still in their wrapping and not been opened, recently bought lethal weapon collection, clint eastwood collection, superman collection, stallone collection, fast and furious collection, and didnt pay anymore than £15 per box set which is superb value. the Cheapest being the Stallone pack which has 5 movies in it, wow 5 blu rays for a Tenner. amazing how Blu ray films are becoming cheaper nowadays especially for box sets. There are only 2 kinds of Blu rays that I will never purchase unless they are incredibly cheap and that is "Stand up" and "TV series" regarding tv series just bought 4 box sets "Porridge" "some mothers do have em" "Bottom" "open all hours" HMV were doing a great deal on buy one get 2nd half price, woohooo. dvd box sets not Blu Ray...lol
