First timer here!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, as the title suggests, this will be my very first convention and wondering about a few things before I go ahead and book tickets. Firstly, I know you will have to queue to meet the guests obviously. I have heard some conventions, you take a ticket and that gives you the order you are supposed to queue in. Is that the same here, or is it first come first served, that is, whoever queues first will be saw first?

The other question is about the time of the photo shoots. Now I know times are TBC but can anybody give some idea of when they may take place? I will probably be looking for Paul McGann and John Rhys-Davies. I will most likely taking the bus to and from Belfast, and don't want to book a photoshoot only to find out they are taking place after the time I leave to ensure I can make it home okay. I know the Con last till 6pm on the Saturday. I will maybe need to be at the bus station at 5.30pm to get home.

Also, any other tips to enjoy the Con? I will probably be coming fairly early, getting to it not long after it opens. My plan would be to try and meet who I want as soon as possible, and then go around and soak up the atmosphere the rest of the time. Sound okay? Also, I have met a lot of celebrities but you seem to have a little more time at a Con which allows for a bit more than a hello, can I have your autograph? How long do people generally spend talking to the guests?

Thanks!

Any guests that are busy enough there will be a 'virtual queue' system in operation. You can collect a numbered 'virtual ticket' or VT for free from the end of that guest's queue. There will be a board at that same place with a number on it. You can go away, enjoy the rest of the event (pick up VTs for other guests if needed) then when your number is lower than the one on the board you can join the short 'real' queue. You can't miss your turn (as long as you arrive before the queue is closed at the end of the day when the guest is going to leave!) If your ticket says '4' and the board is up to 500, you can still join! The majority of guests will probably just be a 'turn up and join the queue' situation.

Photoshoots will probably run for most of the day - as the print is given to you instantly, it is possible that shoots could run right up until the show closes. Most of the smaller events like Belfast they have ended a little earlier than this but it can't be guaranteed that this will be the case in Belfast until the schedule is out just before the event, sorry.

As for time talking to the guests - the busiest guests will likely not have time for an extended conversation, but at this show most should be able to exchange a few words with you. The quieter guests it's really a matter of judging things if a queue starts to form behind you. If there is no queue then I have known guests to sometimes happily chat for 10 minutes or more.

Photoshoot timetables will be out nearer the event but they are always subject to change best thing is to check the times when you get there, the times should be on big posters outside the photoshoot area. Take water as it can get hot inside venues and wear comfy shoes. Most guests love to talk to fans but if there are queues it might not be possible. Main thing is to have fun, bring a camera, enjoy the cosplay it really adds to the fun.

Another first timmer here. When guests signing autographs do they just sign there name or will they personalise photo for you ie write your name on it.

It varies between guests. If they aren't too busy, MOST guests are happy to personalise. If a guest is not doing personalisations at all, there will often be a sign up saying so.

Hi etmuse and Sheppy dreamer, thanks for responding to my questions! Damn, I meant to buy tickets online but the shop is closed. Will the place that is selling entry tickets also sell tickets for the photo shoots, or are these tickets likely to be sold somewhere else? Also, are the photo shoot areas close to each guest? I'm assuming they will be away from where they are signing for certain periods to go to do the photo shoots?

The photoshoots tickets will be available to buy on a seperate desk inside the venue when you've got your entry ticket. Showmasters sometimes post up a map of the venue on the website so look out for that before you go so you'll see where it find it.Also the photoshoot areas. they are seperate from the guest signing areas as these tend to get busy with all the queues. Easy to find though as they will be marked up as Photoshoot A,B or C, with lists up on the venue on which one to go to ( also on the map). If in doubt ask one of the Showmaster volunteers or staff on the day in their distinctive SM shirts. They'll point you in the right direction.
