we have around 80 items in this our first auction with some really cool items that you normally could not buy so what did you buy or see that you thought was cool and do you want us to build this up into a bigger aspect to the show, and get more of the guests to bring over more items for the auction ?

Although I enjoyed seeing the items (scripts, costumes, etc), they quickly went far beyond what I could afford. I do miss the old style auction, of lesser value items. Perhaps there could be a Showmasters stall, as there was at a previous convention (MK, I think), if the dealers don't object.

I preferred the old style auctions - this time I saw stuff I was interested in but I went to Charles Martinet's talk and after it finished I realised I'd forgotten about the auction and missed the chance to place a bid.

I loved the items on display, I took a photo of most of it and I drooled over the same number, but all of them went too high for me. But I got used to this, not having money to afford anything that is auctioned at your events :)

I thought it worked really well - I bid and won the Alien Nation head/appliance, so was very happy. It was much better having higher end items, rather than the usual t-shirts, badges and posters.

It would also be a good idea if we were offered some COA's along with the items though.

Great items, but not keen on the bidding approach...

I saw several crossed out bids... I did bid on a couple of items early in the day and was very busy all afternoon... I have no way of knowing if someone just crossed out my bids to win something...

I had a look at the items and cannot deny they were fantastic items for us to get our hands on, but I also had a quick glance at some of the bids and knew immediately there was no point in me taking part as I cannot afford to bid much. It is a shame as there was some stuff I would have loved to be the owner of.

There were some good items, particularly the James Bond casino chips, but as others have said by the time I looked the bids were already in excess of what I would have wanted to spend, not to say they were silly amounts just more than I wanted to spend.

I also agree with others, I was surprised to see that you could see what other people had already bid but to be fair I'm not sure how something like a silent auction usually works so maybe that is normal. I guess if it was sealed bids then it creates extra work in that someone then has to sit there opening envelopes and someone else has to double check every bid which perhaps takes more time than is available.

I also think that the bids should be secret - that is how a silent auction normally works from my experience, you fill out a slip and put it into a box.

The general idea, though, was good, so I definitely wouldn't object to another silent auction next time!

I agree to keeping the bids silent in future. I had to leave before lunchtime on Sunday and somebody was able to stroll along later in the day and outbid me by £1. Nothing I could do about it, but it wouldn't have happened if my bid had been private.

Why not for some items make a raffle?

Say an item was worth like £60.00 and you made a raffle for one or two items you easily could get loads of raffle people I mean for £1.00 I'd do that for the chance of winning

That's a great idea :-) at least then everyone would have a far chance of wining

Setup an eBay style page so people can bid even from mobile devices and keep tabs without running about, I thought though that some of the signatures could have been better or at least explained why some were probably just from film premieres without any care from those signing. Though buying autographs is something that doesn't interest me it would be nice to see a little info against each one, example date and place signed or what even ect...

I like the idea of being able to get some cool memorabilia but any auction format limits the amount of people that can afford to bid for things.

I think it should be a raffle, you can set the tickets at whatever price but its a bit more fair for everyone. Obviously you will still get people that will be able to afford to buy a number of tickets but at least it gives the people without a lot of money a chance to win.

It has always bothered me with other things like children in need when they offer amazing things like the driving the Ferraris with Chris Evans or (I am sure one year they did this) a flight with the red arrows. I would love to do those things but I lack the thousands of pounds needed to bid. So if they offered a raffle I would have a go!

It was good to see the items but people could just outbid you by £1 at the last minute and win and when you are in a talk or waiting for an auto there is no chance in upping your bid!

It was nice and freed up a talk space but I much prefer an auction when the item goes there and then, I love the auction each year in Braehead and have won some great items.

I loved it, It was a good auction as it had bigger items catering to a lot of different fans, I won two items on Saturday within the last hour a stingray Titan hand for £66 and a Harry Potter letter from first movie for £81 and left a bid on a Sunday stargate item that I won for £22 which surprised me completely and happily.

The idea of it was great I would love to see it again bidding worked well besides at the end when I noticed a few people hovered in front of their chosen clipboards not letting anyone in to bid so a quick step back if you are not bidding from the crew would of been nice and a rather rude person coming in just as the crew were lifting the clipboard but luckily the crew member disallowed that bid, and if COA had been ready it would of been nice to.

But on the whole it was different I was tempted by many and it certainly created a buzz in the area I felt abit sorry for the crew but they seemed to be having their fun moments and created a few laughs with tempting in new bidders, And I liked the bidding style if it had been hidden bidding I could of been outbidding myself and held off on bidding on other items I did want because of it, many thanks to you all and I look forward to doing it again if you do choose to carry it on at future events

Thanks

On the flipside, particularly if you had something expensive where tickets might need to be £5, you run the risk of people saying "there will be loads of people buying, I'll have no chance - buying a ticket is a waste of money", and you only sell a few and don't the money back. Alternatively, if you sell tickets at a pouind, you then have to make a serious effort to sell hundreds of them.
