Stan Lee autograph disappointment

I waited for 10 hours to get Stan's autograph. I was number 111 in the virtual queue and would have gotten an autograph if he had signed. We only got the news that he wasn't signing 40 minutes after he was supposed to show up. This has been a huge disappointment as it was my last chance to meet the best guest I could have hoped for. Showmasters - I'm not impressed.

I think overall Stan Lee part of the show should of been managed better. I keep hearing he is old which is fair enough but like with many things you have to manage peoples expectations.

Have a limited photo shoot.... not have ticket 1200 and be disappointed.

Signing should be pre booked - At least people would be disappointed at home and not when they have traveled great distances for a chance only to wait 8 hours or so and be disappointed.

I was lucky and was able to get a photograph with him. Wasnt going to get a autograph as i knew this would happen. I feel sorry for everyone who has missed out.

Did he not sign today?

He did sign, but for under an hour. He didn't finish the gold pass holders and at the end they were still calling 0-25. I had been looking forward to this all year but it's been a real let down. I couldn't even afford to buy anything that had already been signed outside of the booth! I understand that he is an old man, but people who wanted autographs didn't stand a chance today unless they had a gold pass and got in at the right time. I'm not one for photoshoots, so an autograph was my ideal. To come for 6am, get a low number virtual queuing ticket and then miss out is unacceptable. Not only this but I missed out on Ian McDiarmid today so that I could give myself the best chance possible to get Stan's auto, only to be let down once it was too late.

However, Jason did come out to apologise and explain the situation to the hundreds waiting at Stan's booth himself. Thanks for doing that

Yup, we were devastated as well at missing him. It was a once in a lifetime chance . . . with special meaning for us as our teenage daughter is named Storm, after the X-Men character, and we had a painting of the character for him to sign for her. :( At the end of the day though his health is far more important than our autographs.

This is where I think the idea of pre ordering autos for the bigger guests is a good idea. Big cons in the US work that way!

Ta,

Che-Snake :)

You would still have to manage this very carefully. If you think around 1400 photoshoots were pre-sold for Stan on Saturday and Sunday. If you had sold a similar number of pre-order autos, no way he would have got through them. Reducing items to be signed to one per person would have really helped over the weekend to get as many people through as possible but sometimes you just aren't going to be able to meet the demand in the time you have. Showmasters arranging the extra Friday signing was a great move and I suspect if I hadn't of attended that, then I would have had very similar difficulties in obtaining Stan's autograph as well.

You can't talk to him right? So why bother standing in a que? My idea months ago was the best. Have Stan sign several hundred 8x10s before he comes over and then on the day let people go buy one and say a quick hello or a nod of approval, collect your pre signed picture and walk on. That way Stan doesn't have to sit and sign anything.

No way man.

1. I like to see the item signed in front of me.

2. I didn't want any old picture signed, I had a specific comic I wanted him to sign and Stan was brilliant, not only did he make sure he had a good pen that showed up well , but he also made sure he signed in the best area he could on the item.

3. You couldn't have a chat with him, but yes you could say Hi and thank him for signing your item and I got a great nod and big smile from him

Agree. I was lucky to just make the early friday session and I got to go through again on Sunday for a friend who just missed out on Saturday. I like to at least be in the presence of the guest and see the item being signed. I did manage to say something to him on friday and got a nice reply and big smile. Sunday was very rushed and he looked very tired but still managed a smile after signing my item.

I do think it could have been managed much better, far too many special passes sold which meant if you were just picking up a VT you had very limited chance even after queuing for hours in the morning. Even with my normal gold pass I felt very lucky to have got to see him and normally it's not a problem meeting any guest with one of those but this still felt special.
