Bournemouth...

I'd like to propose a convention as stated in the title [Bournemouth International Comic Con] at the Bournemouth International Centre.

Bournemouth is an ideal location to host such an event, being a beach town in the middle of the south coast it attracts hundreds of thousands of people each summer to have a day out (when it's not raining). It's predominantly a student town but especially a family town, more so in the surrounding areas. The Bournemouth International Centre is widely underused, with one of the main events taking place tending to be an annual political conference. It houses four halls which are:

Windsor Hall [Largest]
Solent Hall
Tregonwell Hall
Purbeck Hall

There is a car park next to the building which holds up to 650 spaces. There are also car parks within walking distance to the venue.

So, why Bournemouth? Other than the fact it's on the beach and attracts a lot of people, the infrastructure of the town is ideal for people to come and have a day out or two. Everything is within a short walk from the venue. Hotels and guesthouses. Bournemouth prides itself on hotels from budget Premier Inn to the lavish Royal Bath, and Marriot. Seriously, one thing you would never have to worry about is finding a place to spend the night. The town has HUNDREDS of hotels; the majority are within 20 -30 minutes walk from the B.I.C. Getting to the town couldn't be any simple. It has a train station that has direct routes with the likes of London, Southampton, Birmingham, Manchester, a National Express coach station (outside the train station), an international airport (European destinations only). Getting around town is straightforward also, it has a regular bus service every 15 minutes that can take you around town and even to neighboring towns Poole and Boscombe if people fancy spending some time out there. There is a yellow taxi service that arrives when demanded, and you can find them scattered on every street waiting for your custom (slightly exaggerated). There is a host of nightclubs, pubs, and bars whichever takes one's fancy for the evening. Or even have a relaxing night out at one of the many many restaurants. There are two cinemas by the venue Odeon and ABC (owned by Odeon). Snooker halls, A laser quest and bowling alley nearby too. Pretty much the town has a whole host of things to keep people occupied. That way the good folk will come back for another day of convention goodness, and I guarantee, it'll be an experience they'll forever be grateful for. Oh yeah, I forgot...it a beach town! The sea might not be warm but come on...BEACH PARTY!

Hand on heart I firmly believe this would be a massive hit, especially in Bournemouth. If I could put the event on by myself, I would do, but that'll, unfortunately, take a lot of time which is why I'm pitching the idea to Showmasters to help make it a reality. At the end of the day if this doesn't come to be, well I'll just have to start from scratch in making it possible.

Thanks for reading (if you weren't bored of my prattling on)
Should anyone from Showmasters need more details, please contact me so I can help? Pretty please?

A great idea I'm sure but it was the site of one of my most traumatic episodes !

Many years ago we were travelling along the road and a pedestrian just walked out in front of our car and we couldn't stop in time and knocked him over, he came flying on to our bonnet and smashed through our windscreen. Ironically there were two actual crossing points and he chose to walk out in the middle of these, using neither of them. Fortunately he survived the incident, but I had flashbacks for a while and probably an element of post traumatic stress as the incident would just keep replaying in my head of hitting the brakes , the impact and seeing him flying towards the windscreen and it shattering.

Would love to see a con in Bournemouth at the BIC! They recently had an 'alien invasion' event which lasted a few weeks where the public could view props, costumes, and fan made replicas from sci fi films and shows. It looked like it was quite popular. A great location aswell with nearby hotels and the beach!

do we know if SM generated enough this year through ticket sales to confirm a likelihood of it returning next year?

I doubt SM would discuss their sales, maxcat. All we can do is wait for the dates for next year's cons to be announced.
