fox mulder
--------------------------------------------------- How to .... Add or Change a Forum Avatar (1) Go to My Controls at the top right hand corner of the Showmasters Forum front page (http://showmastersonline.com/forums) (2) Click on Edit Avatar Settings, under Personal Profile, on the left side of My Controls. --------------------------------------------------- Now you have two choices:- (a.) Pre-installed avatars - Select any avatar from the list by clicking on it, and then on Add This Avatar To My Profile at the bottom of the page. (b.) Your image avatars - You will have to add a web address (for example www.collectormania.com/avatar.gif) to link to in the blank area next to 'Your Avatar'. It is best if you link from your own webspace, unless you have permission from the owner. NOTE: FORUM AVATAR UPLOADS WILL NOT WORK - YOU HAVE TO LINK TO ONE. To find out the address of an avatar - Right click on the picture, and then left click on Properties. The Address (URL) will appear, and you can copy and paste this into the appropriate place on the forum controls. Again, click on Add This Avatar To My Profile at the bottom of the page, and you should have your new avatar. --------------------------------------------------- Tip - Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com) provides free webspace for picture files and supports file linking. Imageshack (http://www.imageshack.us) also does, but possibly has limited bandwidth. Use the 'direct link' option once uploade onto their site. Be wary of some websites such as Yahoo Photos (http://photos.yahoo.com) not allowing linked files, or having limited bandwidth (you can only view files so many times in a specified time period) like Angelfire (http://angelfire.lycos.com). To find avatars, use a search engine such as Google (http://www.google.co.uk) or use their image specific section. --------------------------------------------------- Edited May 1, 2008 by fox mulder

Queen_Sindel
How large is the file? Usually that's the problem. 64x64 pixels and 20 KB is the maximum.

Queen_Sindel
Are you trying to upload directly to the forum? That's actually the error message if you try that. You need to upload to Photobucket and then use the Photobucket link. You can't upload avatars directly to the forum. If you're on Photobucket, which of the links are you trying and where are you putting it in?

Moderators DavidB Posted June 19, 2010 Moderators Share Posted June 19, 2010 (edited) OK, make sure you've followed these: 1) Go to 'My Controls' 2) 'edit Avatar settings' 3) Paste that link where it says 'Enter a URL to an online avatar image' and then 'update avatar'. It should resize it and accept it. I just tried it myself with your link and it worked fine. Not sure if you need to 'remove avatar' first if you have one already but there's nothing wrong with the file/link you just posted. Moderators DavidB Posted June 19, 2010 Moderators Share Posted June 19, 2010 You can't 'upload' you just directly link to the file itself. Did you follow what I just said and it still didn't work?
bonniesrg
I haven't been able to have an avatar for months, not matter what link I copy and paste or how I alter the avatar it never uploads. Seriously stressful, I might need to be sectioned soon.
Queen_Sindel
Are you trying to upload to the forum? It sounds like that. You need to upload the picture to Photobucket or a similar site, and then enter the link at "Enter a URL to an online avatar image". Have you tried adding one of the avatars from the galleries offered? If that works we at least know it's no problem with your account. If you post the link to a picture you're trying to use we could have a look what may be wrong.
bonniesrg
I probably am doing something wrong, I just don't know what. The Photo I'm trying to use is on photobucket, I've tried using all 4 of those links they have for the pictures. I also highlighted the picture with the cursor clicked on properties and tried copying and pasting the URL address, but nothing works. This is the URL when I click on properties Photobucket It does look wrong just looking at it, like the link is too long. Moderators DavidB Posted July 28, 2010 Moderators Share Posted July 28, 2010 Over on the left there's the 'Share this image' part, and the Direct Link is: http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii97/bo...LucasIcon-1.gif That should work, but if not you may need to rename the file if it has an issue with the - in it.
