Chances of receiving weird looks on the tube while in cosplay?

Recommended Posts

The most simple things can get you weird looks.

Last time I as going to Disneyland Paris the First Class train journey happened to be a lot cheaper than the second class tickets due to a special offer. You wouldn't expect what looks a woman in a Tinkerbell shirt can receive in First Class. I don't think I was ever asked for my ticket that often! ><

if anyone was giving me weird/bad looks or asked me why i was wearing what i was id just say im going to a fancy dress party. That way most people would probaby just accept it. if they were started asking me about it id say it was at a huge scifi event. well its sorta true the conventions are a bit like giant parties.

I've had that happen on the shortest journey and then also some people will ask what you're doing it for and some will ask simply for a photo. You'll be surprised at the amount of people that are interested in the events and have never heard of them before.

Having only ever gone to London to do these events I think it's great seeing people in costume on the tube, my first show was the first DSTL so it was quite an interesting first experience seeing london and going on the underground for the first time with a load of Klingons on board

Always makes me chuckle - like when I saw a Cyberman crossing the road in Cardiff. You don't really picture Cybermen respecting the Green Cross Code but I guess everyone has to think of safety first!

I think most people are more aware of these things these days and would be more likely to react positively than not.

When I was on my way to the LFCC a few months back, a kid saw my Spider-man t-shirt and said "oh mum! He's got a Spider-man t-shirt!" and started asking his mum loads of questions about Spider-man, like if he was her favourite superhero, who would win in a fight... He certainly liked my t-shirt but she didn't sound quite so enthusiastic... It did make me chuckle though! Hee hee!

Me too! Depending on what I'm cosplaying, this year in July, me and my mate both went in costume, and we did receive some very baffling looks, however by the time we arrived at Clapham Junction, we began to mingle in the crowds.

I just see it as a unique way to get attention without being a numpty about it!

'Cause I was thinking Queen Guinevere if I can get the right dress for it, which is sure to stand out among non-cosplayers. :P But good if people don't take unkindly to that sort of thing on public transport! I know it doesn't really matter either way, I'm just really nervous and shy and I'm torn between a burning desire to cosplay and not wanting to get stared at.

I really wouldn't worry about standing out, I risked it myself this year for the first time, and I actually felt very comfortable doing it. If people look let them , some will admire it and some wont, but in the end if you feel it may tie you down a little you can always change on arrival. I wouldn't feel too intimidated by going in cosplay :)

Personally I've, so far, have never gotten or seen anyone getting bad feedback from people on the tube whilst cosplaying. Most people on the tube wont even blink an eye and only occasionally you will get people asking for your picture on the tube. Its always very nice seeing other people on the tube in cosplay and sometimes very useful as if you every get lost trying to get to the convention you can follow someone in cosplay to get there.

I have only ever cosplayed twice as its not really my thing.

First time I went as Sephiroth from FF7 and being a female dressed in a male costume with a coat that shows off your chest and stuff I of course had to hide it but instead of having a shirt on or something I decided to use velcro but it was obvious and without going into too much detail I got a lot of stares and funny looks my way I suppose I did look rather odd though

I guess its inevitable getting rather strange looks from folk as its not what a lot of people would class as ''normal'' but I think most looks would be from curious and interested people rather than anything else but then again I always get weird and strange looks and I don't even need to be dressed up

Just try not to let it get to you and before long you'll be with plenty of other cosplayers and feeling much better
