Belfast Date Change

Recommended Posts

  • Showmasters Admin

We have decided to move the Belfast show scheduled for September to Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th March 2017. At the present time, we feel that one show per year will work better for everybody and moving to March will ensure we can make this show the best possible

I'm sorry but i'm going to have to voice my opinion here.

I have been attending Showmasters events for a very long time, even before I decided to become a member of the forum and I have always defended SM to people that moan about how it is run, even against the recent cancellation of the Thursday LFCC day, which has caused me a lot of hassle. But now I have lost over £300 in non-refundable accommodation and flights. I had asked weeks before booking if this event was going to take place, here on this forum and was assured that because the dates of the event had been posted, it was all okay and official. This thread on the forum has now been deleted.

To those of you thinking; "it's your fault for booking non-refundable", but having already asked for clarification, why should I have deemed that necessary? These events are already very expensive, and booking travel and hotels which allow you to cancel adds even more unwanted expense, which I cannot be dealing with.

I'm not going to say that I'm never attending SM events again, because I would be lying. I think you do provide a great convention enabling us fans to meet actors who would otherwise be unattainable. But to say that I am very disappointed is an understatement. Personally I will not be attending the Belfast convention in March, and I now feel I really have to think about booking any other conventions away from home, and this genuinely makes me sad.

Contact the shop please - shop@showmastersevents.com. Last time the vouchers had expiration dates. I didn't buy any this time, so no idea if there's anything printed on them this time.

It can only be confirmed what is current at the time you were asking. At the time you were asking the date was confirmed. Now the circumstances have changed and the date was moved. It happens very rarely, but it happens on occasion. I'm truly sorry that you've lost money and I totally understand trying to book as cheap as possible. But that is the risk you take when you book cheap.

Regarding guest announcements, at the moment the guests announced in here are confirmed. Other announcements will be added when confirmation gets in.

I understand everyones frustrations. Belfast seemed to be an event that was getting more popular especially as got new venue which was bigger. And it is a disappointment being cancelled, because it isn't a date change as there was always going to be an event on 2017 the last 2016 event was cancelled, but really looking forward to 2017 now.

Like leoric has already posted, I totally understand your frustration as well. There is no issue with voicing frustration, same as with voicing criticism. However, there is an appropriate way to do it and an inappropriate way. We can't tolerate certain language on here. Cursing and random accusations against SM are among those things.

I had to hide a couple of posts because they unfortunately took the latter route. If one of your posts is gone that is the reason. If it's gone please don't post the very same statement again. If it didn't stay on the first time it will be removed the second time too.

I have decided that even though I'm going alone and its during my birthday weekend I will still come over to Belfast. Might as well use my hotel and flights for something!

Having slept on it last night I have also decided that if you bring me Gary Oldman, all will be forgiven :P

I had a feeling it would be cancelled as for me the guest list last November was pretty poor. I was actually done at the con within two hours as there was not even a comic section which it being Belfast film and COMIC con I thought there would be. Lfcc is a different animal altogether and I hope that Belfast get names that are as high profile as when Carl Weathers and Billie Piper attended.
