Latest Comic Guest Announcement - Ian Edginton

Appearing: Saturday

Writer: 2000 AD; Victorian Undead; Hinterland; Star Trek: The Next Generation/X-Men: Second Contact

FOR WELL over a decade Ian Edginton has been a regular contributor to 2000AD, for which he has created such popular series as The Red Sea, Stickleback and Brass Sun.

The writer began his career 12 years before he debuted on the self-styled Galaxy’s Greatest Comic writing short strips for 1990 issues of Revolver and Deadline. Within a year he was working for America; starting out with a three-chapter serial for the Dark Horse Presents anthology before moving on to author Dark Horse’s four-issue The Terminator: The Enemy Within

That four-parter was the start of a successful sideline for Edginton as he came to write many licensed comics down the year. Among the lengthy list have been Aliens: Rogue (1993), Predator versus Judge Dredd and Star Trek: Early Voyages (both 1997), Aliens vs Predator: Eternal (1998), Predator: Xenogenesis (1999), Blair Witch: Dark Testaments (2000) and Planet of the Apes (2001). He also wrote the 1998 Star Trek: The Next Generation/X-Men: Second Contact and the 2003 Batman/Alien II crossovers as well as such gaming tie-ins as Hellgate: London (2006) and Warhammer 40,000: Condemned by Fire (2008).

Edginton has also become known for his adaptations, which include Richard Matheson’s Hell House (2004), Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray (2008), Arthur Conan Doyle’s A Study in Scarlet (2009) and Edgar Rice Burrough’s A Princess of Mars.

He also adapted The War of the World in 2005. That comic was in collaboration with D’Israeli, an artist with whom he works on a regular basis and with whom he created two sequels to the H.G. wells novel: Scarlet Traces (which first appeared in 1992 in Judge Dredd Megazine) and Scarlet Traces: The Great Game (2006). The writer/artist team also produced Kingdom of the Wicked, a 1996 four-parter.

The extremely prolific writer’s extensive CV also includes X-Force (2000), The Establishment (2001), Scion and Sojourn for CrossGen (2003), Stormwatch: P.H.D. (2008), Victorian Undead (2010) and its 2011 sequel as well two other 2011 comics: Kane & Lynch and The Immortal: Demon in the Blood.

Alongside his continuing 2000 AD work, Edginton’s more recent credits include 2013’s Dead Space: Liberation graphic novel and monthly Hinterkind series as well as The Evil Within (2014) and Steed and Mrs Peel, a 2014 tie with the cult classic Avengers TV show.
