freerollin
Hi everyone, hoping to get some advice here. For the past few years i've had a hobby of creating art work inspired by comics, films and video games. I'd really like to attend an upcoming event as a trader. I've read the Showmasters Ts&Cs regarding traders and one thing which stood out as slightly confusing was (along the lines of) "No unofficial/unlicensed merchandise." I've reached out to the license holders of Marvel and Star Wars requesting a licence to produce and sell art inspired by their characters and all things which fall under their copyright. Their response basically summed up the rules regarding this, and they do not grant this permission to anyone. In my previous visits to Showmasters conventions i have seen countless traders selling prints, posters, all types of things which are directly related to Star Wars, Marvel, DC etc. I phoned the showmasters office to ask about this, and they just reiterated what i've already read about no unofficial merch, and i should seek permission from the licence holder. Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing?
Raylenth
I don't know if you have to declare what you are selling when you book a booth but it might be a simple case of Showmasters have to obviously uphold copyrighting laws in their terms and conditions, but if you choose to disregard that and sell your items that is your choice and the consequences would be yours if anyone official saw and chose to prosecute you for copy-write infringement. However I don't know if the moderators will allow this discussion to remain open freerollin as it skirts the edges of circumventing their rules.
Queen_Sindel
Yes, it skirts the edge of circumventiing the forum rules. I do work in the intellectual property field by chance, but the rules differ so much from one country to another, so I am definitely the wrong person to ask still. I'm not sure if this is feasible for the size of your business, but if you want to be 100 percent sure google for a specialist in intellectual property and copyright matters near you and get an appointment there. But as anything related to lawyers these guys don't come cheap.
