  1. Umm is your group open for new members? I am interested in Trek costuming. (I can't send pm's here for some reason) I am making a TOS red skant uniform at the mo using Kathys pattern .. a few issues with the pattern sizing but otherwise the garment is looking really beautiful. I didn't know if there were any Trek costuming groups in the UK.
  2. I realise I am like 9 months late (I only just joined) but.. how did you get on in the end? Was it Kathys skant uniform pattern you bought? I am currently making a TOS red skant using this pattern. After completing most of the main body and doing a test fit I discovered it was VERY small. I used the size 12 lines from the pattern which says it should fit bust 38" waist 30" hips 40". All I can say is no way!. My wife is size 10 in tops and she said it feels more like a small size 8! The back zipper had no chance of doing up. The sleeves also were so narrow she could not bend her arms without straining the seams. I read on a Star Trek costume forum the same thing happened to someone else (used size 14 pattern and said it came out more like a size 10). So I think there are some issues with the pattern - not that Kathy drew it wrong but perhaps the printers shrank it smaller than life size for whatever reason. Sleeve length is also on the short side ..maybe the pattern was based on nurse Chappels early season blue skant.. it's the only one I've seen which has 3/4 sleeves. Anyway just to warn you...Don't put your trust in the info completely. Maybe do a test 'rough' first using some old material. The skant which I already made using red velor looks gorgeous but probably would only fit a skinny teenage girl, so I am adding some extra filler panels under the arm and down the sides to give more room. I notice that the ready made TOS dresses are made out of polyester. I have to say the red velor looks (and feels) SO much nicer. Go for it if you can. :) Next time I will use the largest pattern lines and see how that translates into real dress size. Just out of interest.. do you realise there are two main female skant uniform styles used in the show? Kathys pattern copies the one with diagonal panels and invisible back zipper. The other style has vertical panels and an invisible zipper which runs up the side of the front. Trek insignia can be found at the http://www.warp-one.co.uk/ shop If you want your scant to be very screen accurate you can find the best recommended fabric, and re-pro embroidered gold stripes on the star trek costume site here. (loads of good reference pics too) http://starfleet1701st.yuku.com/forums/78/...nal-Series.html If you're below lietenant you don't need the gold stripes on sleeves. eg Yeoman doesn't have gold stripes. So you could just go for the Star fleet Insignia which is available in UK at warp one and still be accurate. Best wishes. Maybe I'll see you at a con sometime. :) Steev.
