Big Guest Announcement Tomorrow at 7pm

I'm really sorry, but ...

Is anyone else bored with these Announcement Announcement threads?

I can kind of see the point if they give clues and encourage guessing, keeps the hype alive; but if there's nothing like that then what's the point? Just make the announcement, surely?

Or even if there is going to be severely limited availability as with Pele. In which case, announce in advance that there is a guest being announced at this time with limited availability.

But as to this thread, what's the point?

As has been said many times too, different people have different ideas of "big". So most of the time you're going to be disappointed anyway. So all Showmasters do is set up loads of people for disappointment and then get annoyed when that disappointment is expressed. They never learn.

If Showmasters stopped doing these Announcement Announcements, people who liked the guest would still get excited, everyone would still know, and you'd avoid the annoyed disappointments.

But look through this thread so far; NOBODY seems excited or hyped. It's just a case of "oh, again?"

I like them, the recent development of putting them in the general chat section might have been a mistake.

But I hope they continue because they can be fun

I have noticed that announcement posts are getting significantly less hype and attention than they were last year, and it's probably down to the reasons you've stated.

I like it when they have clues, but I agree that they're a bit pointless when they don't.

Edit: I think it's especially hard to be excited/interested when you don't know which event it's for. I can't go to Collectormania: Birmingham because of a placement, and there's a chance that the announcement could be for that event and it either won't be of interest or will just make me disappointed.

i have no problem with these announcements and should be kept coz some people like guessing and the likes of people who don't like it can always stay away and not look but then again they look at the time of the announcement is made. I think it could be someone from Superman coz the Terence Stamp group photo but not said anyone else from Superman. Please showmasters keep doing these.

There's no harm whatsoever in letting people know there's an announcement coming. It's a good way of getting people talking about the events.

Anyone who gets disappointed that it isn't their guest and then gets angry at SM really needs to put stuff into perspective.

But people are already aware that there is going to be guests announced for the events. Without giving any clues to narrow down who it could be it just ends up being another guests suggestions thread.

Suppose it's like telling your girlfriend/partner/wife/significant other you've gotten them a present, and they've to guess what it is. They'll start listing everything they want. Sorted! (A bit defunct on the forum with the suggestion threads, but the point stands :poki:)

Since this is my first Collectormania and LFCC this year I get excited when the say there is going to be a guest announcement, and so far with the ones for this year I've been in the majority pleased, so I have no problem if they keep doing this.

the problem is the term "BIG"

different people have different ideas of what constitutes a BIG guest.

Example: for me, Lauren Cohan from The Walking Dead is a BIG guest, however, for someone who isnt interested in TWD or other stuff she has been in; i.e Supernatural she wouldnt be considered a big guest.

i can see why showmasters make these announcement of an announcement posts but it just leads to people be very disappointed.

ive said it before and i'll say it again; people would be super excited for the guests to just be announced without the build up, that way no one is dissappointed that a "Big guest announcement" isnt one they are interested in as they arent invested in the idea of having someone they think is big attending then not having it happen.

still, to each their own.

(FYI, Lauren Cohan would draw in big crowds, plus she wants to do a london event... plus i would pay good money for a greene sisters photo op)

As im still new to all this convention malarky i still get excited about announcements like this even if it doesnt give any clues as to who or where, but then i like reading other peoples guesses just as much. However personally after amazing Pele announcement last week would like someone for LFCC but not sure if my bank manager feels the same way.
