Belfast SFX makeup competition

Showmasters are proud to announce the newest feature to Film & Comic Con Belfast.

COMIC CON Character Challenge. This is a SFX makeup competition that will take place over the two days of our next event in September where 8 makeup artists will have 6 hours to create a full character including makeup and wardrobe live on the event floor based on a theme set by the show. Special guests will judge the entries and prizes and a trophy awarded to the winners.

We are launching the competition this weekend with a series of special effects makeup demos by local artists over the two days displaying several techniques from body painting to full prosthetics makeup. There will also be a display of screen used makeup appliances and character busts from Buffy the vampire Slayer, Angel, Sarah Jane Adventures, Stargate SG1 and more.

Demos to see this weekend are.

Saturday: Prosthetic character makeups.

10am -1pm WALKING DEAD:

A full prosthetic zombie character inspired by the hit tv show.

Makeups supplied by SAVAGE SFX and applied by Joanna Nixon from Dead on Prosthetics

2pm – 4pm ALIEN 5:

Watch as a model is made up in character based on Neil Blonkamps Alien 5 concept makeup for Dwayne Hicks played by one of our guests Michael Biehn.

Sunday: Body painting and Tattoos.

10am – 5pm HARLEY QUINN:

See how a character can be created with only the use of paint. A model will be transformed into Harley Quinn in full head to toe body paint.

11am – 1pm DARTH MAUL:

People think face painting is for kids, not so. Watch as the Sith apprentice comes to life through the use of colour and 3d appliances.

2pm – 5pm JOKER from Suicide Squad:

To accompany Harley will be the newest incarnation of Mr J featuring body painting and body art tattoos to create the character.

Makeup and tattoos by Leah Morgan from Fuzzy Morgan Makeup.

All these demos will be taking place on the makeup stage on the show floor where you can walk by and watch every step of the process as you enjoy the rest of the event. Forms will be available to anyone wishing to enter September’s competition at the demo stage this weekend.
