  1. My father showed me the article this morning - and, well... I'm one of the people that the guy from The Sun interviewed on Sunday! 'Antony Southall has travelled 200 miles to see [Robert Englund]. "I've budgeted around £60 for autographs. It is expensive. If you've taken the time to come, they should at least have a short chat.' Hmm... Not quite what I said... And I was a tad disappointed to see this comment from one forum user... "One thing that really got me was some of the ignorant and whiny comments they got from people attending the event. Complaining about how they didn't get to have a photo with someone because they couldn't get the tickets. Photo shoot tickets for popular guests sell out fast. Complaining that they didn't get to chat with the guests. Popular guests have to sign quickly, or they won't get to see as many people and you end up with even more people whining. Some guests are just in too much demand for them to stop and pretend that you're the centre of the universe. I can't stand people who are so selfish." Speaking on my own behalf I'd like to point out that the supposed quote I made has been taken out of context. I actually said that some of my friends argue the event is expensive, but when you're a fan of the guests at the event you don't mind paying for such a great opportunity. As for saying 'If you've taken the time to come, they should at least have a short chat', again, I actually said something along the lines of 'if you've taken the time to come a long way, it's nice when you are able to have a short chat too' - funny how the slightest omission from a sentence can make it sound so different! I'm sure I'm not alone in saying I had the greatest time over the weekend, meeting people such as Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp and George Takei - see the thread I started on meeting George! As for those people quoted in the article, perhaps don't be so hard on them, especially if their quote has been tweaked to match the rather demeaning tone of the article! I agree with what another poster wrote about the tone of the article implying you either "get" these events or you don't. I'm sure one article in The Sun isn't going to stop any of us returning to future events - if anything, it might just enlighten a few more people that hadn't previously heard of Showmasters' good work!
  2. Lovely to hear all of your anecdotes from meeting George - I think it's safe to say he's one of those guests you're never going to have a bad experience with! It's really great to see some of your photographs too - the photograph uploaded by Stenum just proves what a good sport he is! He really does seem to have so much time to chat to fans. I mentioned the new Mego-inspired Sulu doll and he told me a story - he said as a little boy his mother would be constantly told that he looked like a little doll; and now he is one, which he considers quite the honour... I told him he should be just as proud of the fact he's been immortalised as a Pez dispenser, to which he responded, "Yes, sometimes my life has moved in mysterious ways!" Haha! Sakuraso, glad to hear you're going to the pantomime - I'm currently trying to work out the most beneficial night to go myself... It seems such a mission to get down to Chatham from here in Preston, but for Mr. Takei, I think it might just be worth it! Maybe I'll see you at the stage door! Keep your George stories coming, please! :-D
  3. I totally agree etmuse - I meant to mention that in my original post. His autographs are stunning - that must have taken some practise, surely! Apologies for the low-quality image, I've already framed the poster! :-D
  4. Great photographs so far everyone! Here's a few of mine... A couple of shots of the ground floor - I've never been to the London show before and was surprised at how large it was... Robert Englund is crazy! What a great guy - it's as if he was made for days like this! Poor Heather, she should have had a stamp made saying "Whatever you do, don't fall asleep", as everyone in front of me in the queue had the same thing written - me included! Great to see Lisa Wilcox there - what a stunning lady; she hasn't aged a day since 1990! A Nightmare on Elm Street cast talk. Star Trek cast talk. With Mr. Sulu himself - George Takei - an absolute gent. The poster I asked him to sign - apologies for the poor quality, I already framed it... Seriously, how tidy does Mr. Takei sign?! Only a couple from me, but thought I'd show you anyway!
  5. Great, friendly, gracious lady - she really did seem so happy to meet everyone and seemed truly interested in when chatting to fans. I chatted to her about the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street documentary, which I really can't wait to see. Actually forgot to get a photograph whilst she signed my poster as I was a little starstruck - but she let me back to the front of her queue to take one when she saw me with my camera. Thanks, Ms. Langenkamp! What a wonderful guest, Showmasters - good work!
  6. As usual, a very big thank-you to the Showmasters team for a great event. Came on Sunday to meet the Nightmare on Elm Street cast members and the wonderful Mr. Takei. It was an absolute pleasure meeting Heather Langenkamp, Robert Englund and Lisa Wilcox - the ladies were incredibly gracious and keen to answer questions, great to meet them after being an Elm Street fan since I was little. Robert was very busy all day so I didn't get to spend too much time talking with him - but kudos to him for trying his best to chat with such short time, and keeping the fans happy by constantly shouting out in Freddy's inimitable voice! Great photoshoot too. Even though I had a fantastic time meeting those guys I have to say the highlight of the day for me was Mr. George Takei, surely one of the warmest, friendliest guests Showmasters have signed up. From the second I started talking to him it was like you were talking to an old friend! He was really interested in the '70s Star Trek poster of him and William Shatner I asked him to sign, and we talked all about the show and his episode of The Twilight Zone... and, er, Pez. Haha! I was really disappointed that I wasn't able to make it on the Saturday and therefore couldn't get a professional shot with him - and even moreso when I saw he wasn't doing posed photosnaps... but then he made my day by posing for a couple regardless! I also felt that he was the most talkative participant in the Star Trek chat - but saying that, I thought he probably would be - is there anyone more instantly associable with Star Trek than Mr. Sulu himself? :-D We all know that George is a regular on the fan circuit, so please, Showmasters, ask him back again! I've just acquired the 8" Sulu doll and I'd love him to sign the shirt! :-) I'm so happy I made the trip down from Preston as all four of the guests I met were amazing. I was curious if any other fans have experiences with George - or the Nightmare cast - they'd like to share? I'd love to hear them!
  7. Yes that's right... That was probably my poor Father who was on photography duty for the day. Thanks for your help, I'd appreciate it if you hear anything... And hopefully Showmasters have heard us and will continue to ask Caroline to their future events! Anyone else going to share any stories? :-D
  8. Really?! How annoying - I too am based in the north-west! I walk past Forbidden Planet every week and managed to miss out on Ms. Munro there! What a shame... If you could sort a way of letting me know if you here any Caroline appearances that'd be fantastic, perhaps a private message? Can you do those on here? I'm new to posting in the forums. :-) And the Little Shoppe of Horrors magazine is very familiar - I think you were in front of me when I met her! Did she show the picture around and comment "I wish!" upon the figure they'd drawn her? Totally agree about the website - it needs some jazzing up; the size of the gallery is CRIMINAL - where are all those superb Lamb's Navy ads from the '70s?
  9. Great to hear so many people had such good experiences with Caroline. I agree with you lukeowl - Caroline really seems genuinely interested in her fans, and as I mentioned in my original post, she not only answered all the questions I could remember but also asked a lot about myself and what I was interested in; just like with you, madmilburn. Sunspeed - it must have been good timing for me as when I arrived I only had to wait a few moments to talk to her and nobody else queued for a while after me, she was chatting the entire time and posed for several photographs... She even told me she loved my aftershave; at which point I turned redder than her Spy Who Loved Me swimsuit. Phantom, I'm *so* jealous you've met Caroline so many times! How do you hear so much about her whereabouts? Her website doesn't seem to be 100% up-to-date in terms of public appearances? If you ever hear of her making an appearance again I'd be really grateful if you could give me a shout as I've just acquired a Star Crash one-sheet I'd LOVE her to sign.. Shame it arrived a couple of days too late! And yes, that Joan Collins poster looks great - it's one of the only ones from that movie I've seen that only features her... and some fabulous painted '70s artwork! Keep the Caroline stories coming, it's great to hear everyone enjoyed meeting her as much as I did.
  10. Only a handful here; I came to meet Joan Collins and Caroline Munro - will have fond memories of both. :-D
  11. Just wanted to thank the Showmasters team for a great event. Came on the Sunday to meet Joan Collins and Caroline Munro, both of whom I've been a long-time fan of. Getting Ms. Collins' autograph did seem a pretty quick process but she was polite and friendly with me and happily signed my Tales From the Crypt Belgian half-sheet; she even had a go at pronouncing the German title! I was a little disappointed that she wasn't posing for photographs outside of the photoshoot, but I'm more than happy with professional photo I have. :-) Caroline Munro is one of the loveliest people I've ever met; she had so much time for everyone that approached her and happily posed for photographs with everyone. I was talking to her for a good fifteen minutes and she answered all my questions about Maniac, Star Crash, Slaughter High and The Spy Who Loved Me, amongst others. Wish I hadn't been so nervous when I first approached her as there was a hundred more things I wanted to ask but had a complete mind-blank when I got there! I asked her to sign two stills, and she wrote a long dedication on both. She was also very talkative in the Bond Girls chat, and the whole episode with her mobile was hilarious. And finally, she's still as GORGEOUS as ever! :-D Ms. Munro seems to be a regular on the fan circuit, please ask her back again! Any other fans have experiences with Caroline/Joan they'd like to share? I'd love to hear about them.
