  1. You lost me at pinked, hong kong hand overcast etc! I can do basic hand stitiching and replacing buttons on a waistcoat. Lol
  2. Am not sure if anyone else has suggested this but I have to say, there is one woman who has featured in numerous sci-fi movies and is well respected in the industry, a true legend. And according to an interview she had with Graham Norton, she LOVES geeks and conventions.............SIGOURNEY WEAVER!!
  3. I was very privileged to meet the great man at a convention 2 years ago (he's much shorter than I was expecting). Was very cool though as he actually walked around the convention chatting with fans/cosplayers for a bit too. I remember gradually narrowing down my choices to three (over a period of weeks). Eventually I settled in Secret Wars #8 (first appearance of Spiderman's black costume), Amazing Spiderman #300 (first appearance of Venom) and a A1 sized poster of Amazing Fantasy #15 (first appearance of Spiderman). All three are now framed and hanging with pride on my wall.
  4. Maybe something like a flicker gallery? Is that what you mean? Yep
  5. Oh, forgot to put Sigourney Weaver on my list too
  6. This will be m second convention but my first in cosplay. I'm sure there are lots of people like me out there who would love to try cosplay but are nervous as they are not sure of the level of other competitors or they cannot decide what to go as. I am thinking that maybe we can have a central gallery on this forum where everyone who attends can send all their cosplay photos, thus creating an archive gallery. I think it would be great to help promote the cosplay as well as show off all the creativity and fun that can be had. Thoughts? Comments? Feedback?
  7. Just found this. Hope it helps: 2a. Registrations - Signups take place before the event via sign up forms OR you may also signup on the day. On the day signups are closed one hour before each masquerade. - Please turn up at the Cosplay Desk/Area at least half an hour before the masquerade is due to be start to be ordered and prepared for the event. - All types of costume may be entered unless otherwise stated; Costumes from film, anime, video games, music, TV, comics, books and theatre. - The competitions are open to all ages unless otherwise stated. If you are under the age of 15 please make sure your parent/guardian gives full consent for you to enter the Masquerade. This can be done by getting a parent or guardian to sign the application form or verbal consent on the day. - A hand made costume must be 80% your own work, and we do check! Bought costumes (as a whole or separately-acquired outfit from a shop or from e-bay) or altered costumes will be eligible for judging but will not be eligible for the 'craftsmanship' category. Specific components of the costume if fully crafted or heavily altered (such as an intricate weapon) may receive marks within the 'craftsmanship' category, given at the judges discretion. It is advisable to include information regarding hand made elements within your application form. All costumes will qualify for the categories of 'character likeness' and 'performance'. - If you are doing a skit and it has been approved via e-mail please make sure you visit the Cosplay deak NO LATER THAN 1 hour before the masquerade so we can check through your tech requirements. (see note under 2b for 'cues') It is preferred that entrants provide a reference picture if they wish to be judged for the Main Prize. This should be emailed in advance or delivered when signing up for the event itself. You should also provide your own music. If you are performing a skit, all sound must be pre-recorded and emailed before the closing date for entries. Staff have the right to stop a skit at any time if it becomes inappropriate. The maximum skit length is two minutes for an individual entry and three minutes for a group. If you have previously won an Showmasters Cosplay Masquerade event with a particular costume, you cannot enter that costume again without prior agreement. If you have previously entered an event with a costume but haven't won a prize you are allowed to re-enter. 2b. Performance - During the masquerade itself we highly encourage you to perform/pose however you wish. We ask for a minimum of three poses. If you are uncertain as to where to present your poses you are advised to use the three point system, typically enter stage from one side, pose. Walk to the other side, pose and finish centre stage (in the middle), pose, before exiting on the other side. This is unless you are doing a skit. - You may come on to your own specific music you have provided. Note if you don't provide music beforehand then you'll come on to generic regardless. - Skits (planned performances) are entirely optional. If you are doing a skit, you must tell us the full details of what you have planned and we reserve the right to decline your skit or stop it if it is/becomes inappropriate. The maximum skit length is two minutes for an individual entry and three minutes for a group. We reserve the right to cap skits if to many have been entered for a particular Masquerade. - Setting up music 'cues'. This ONLY applies to music that has been sent to us. We encourage anyone with a music-track to visit us well before the Masquerade event, this is also vital if performing a skit. There are two basic types of cues, you begin your performance off stage and we will start the music-track. You begin your performance on stage and give us a signal to start the music-track. Please make sure you state this either under additional requirements on your application form or you notify us on the day. - You may be filmed or photographed during the masquerade and Animeleague/Showmasters may wish to use your images. By entering these events you agree to this. 2c. Judging Costumes will be judged in three areas by our professional judging team; Craftsmanship - The quality of the costume and how well it is made. If costume is bought from a shop then this receives 0, if it is altered this is marked at the judges discretion. Character - (Including character likeness and character concept) How true the costume and cosplayer is to the idea of the character. Note this does not necessarily mean they should look exactly like the character; we allow your own creative interpretations (crossplay for example), as long as it recognisably feels like the character and the changes made are creatively done.***If you are presenting your original interpretation or character this will be marked based on likeness to information/concept provided to us. Performance - Takes into account audience and performance reception, as well as how well in character you act. For example your mannerisms, movements and generally how you present yourself/perform to the audience. We have a team of very capable and skilled judges who will examine your costume before the event itself and while on stage. The 'list three distinctive things about your costume' on your application allows each entrant to highlight specific points about costume, character likeness & performance.
  8. I'm not exactly sure. From what I can gather from reading the rules thread, the judges do some pre-judging before you go on stage (which will probably look at sewing/seams etc) and then on stage you're judged on how close you look to your chosen character (with margin for individual artistic flourishes) and personality (acting/posing like said character). I'm no expert on this, though, so I may be completely wrong. My costume will have several pieces bought from charity shops, brought together to complete the look, with a few steampunk pieces I'll be making. I'll enter the competition just for fun as my seamstress skills aren't good enough to create what I need for my look. But it's the taking part, rather than winning, as they say.
  9. I kinda like that steampunk characters are still small in number. Might help make my costume stand out. i just hope people "get" it (they should do though. And even if they don't I'm sure they'll just ask). Am really excited about it right now, although I'm sure I'll get nervous on the day before I arrive. If i go on both days, I might break out my Pennywise inspired costume for Sunday.
  10. This will be my second convention, but my first in cosplay. Am looking to do something different with my costume; I'll be combining elements of Scarecrow from Arkham Asylum game and the Batman animated series in a steampunk style. Already have most of the costume bits and am just about to start work on the hat, mask and glove.
  11. My girlfriend and I are thinking of going to LFCC. This will be her first convention and my second, although a cosplay first for the both of us. I've been looking to see if there were any galleries of photos of costumes from previous shows around, mainly to see the level of detail/effort everyone goes to, but also as we are thinking of doing steampunk versions of two DC characters. Is steampunk popular at LFCC? Is anyone else thinking of doing something steampunk this year?
  12. Alex Kingston Eliza Dushku Joss Whedon Patrick Stewart Wil Wheaton Mark Hamill Leonard Nimoy
  13. I've been looking for the same thing and the only thing I've found are some compilation videos on youtube. Makes the event look like lots of fun and some of the costumes are REALLY amazing (not sure if made or bought, but either way, very impressive). This will be my second convention but my first in cosplay so am really excited at the moment, but know I'll be nervous on the day.
  14. Hi guys and gals. New to the forum, but been a geek long before it was fashionable to be! lol. Anyway, my name is Kevin, I'm 36 and live in London. Love too many comics, ps3 games, sci-fi and movies to list everything here, but am sure we all like the same things (otherwise we wouldn't be here! lol). But here's a quick break down of some of the things I like: Stargate SG1, Buffy & Angel, Doctor Who, BSG (original), Farscape, Flash Gordon, GalaxyQuest, Walking Dead (comics), Futurama. I prefer Marvel over DC (except for Batman), I think Batfleck and Eisenberg are bad casting decisions and I worship at the altar of Whedon. I'll (hopefully) be attending LFCC in July. This will be my second convention but my first in cosplay (am excited at the moment, but know that I'll be nervous on the day). BTW, my avatar is my Halloween costume, inspired by Stephen King's IT. Am trying to upload a pic of what I actually look like. (to be continued...)
  15. My girlfriend and I are thinking of attending in July. This will be her first convention, but my second, although my first in cosplay. I an thinking of doing an original steampunk design of Scarecrow, combining elements from the Arkham Asylum PS3 version and the version from the Batman animated series. Providing reference pictures of from Arkham Asylum and the animated series poses no problem, but as I will be doing an original design, would I need to provide a reference picture for the steampunk elements?
